Post format computer trouble

Postby BAW0343 » Sat May 06, 2006 10:38 am

Ok, i have a few small problems. First i have a laptop and i dont think the correct driver was installed for the laptop mouse pad. I no longer have the option to disable the tap to click (like the left button but i can tap anywhere on the pad), i have also lost the control to set the side of the pad to be the scroll bar (the mouse wheel) Also i have a major lack of performance, my laptop usually runs at 1500 MHz, currently its at 797 MHz. One last thing, under the device manager in other devices i am missing drivers for Base System Device, and SM Bus Controller, When i had windows search it could not find any drivers for these. When I reformated i used the windows operating system cd and i guess it could go to my dads computer, so perhaps it didn't come with the correct drivers for my computer. It is the only one i found and i found it in a place i thought my cd would be so i am assuming it is mine. Some help getting my computer back up to spec would be nice.

Other Specs:
Compaq Presario
Wondows XP SP2
AMD Athlon XP Proessor 3000+
512 MB Ram
NVIDIA GeForce4 420 Go 32M

Thats all I really know about the system

Was the laptop plugged into the mains when you looked at the CPU MHz?  Most laptops underclock the CPU to increase battery life when they are not plugged into the mains.

Go to www.hp.com and go to their support section. There you can find all the correct drivers for your lappy. I recently had to do this for a rebuild for a friend.

If you just let MS install the drivers, then yes you probibly will be haveing problems with your stuff, as they are generic drivers that dont support the specific product correctly.
