Microsfot Force Feedback 2

I have a Microsfot Force Feedback 2 joystick. My comp isn't powerful enough to handle the force feedback and I like it turned off. The only prob is that the stick goes floppy when it's turned off. Is there any way i can get a constant resistance on the stick?
Currently I start FS, go into calibrate joystick and then the forces come on, is there any way to have resistance on permanently

No, there isn't. The lack of resistance is one of the best things about these sticks however. The top aces in combat flight sims disable the FFB and fly like this because it actually provides a better "feel" just using your imagination instead of the bodgy forces. There is nothing quite like the excellent control that these sticks offer with their "feather touch".

Why isn't your PC powerful enough to handle the forces? Doesn't the stick come with it's own powerpack?

I've never heard of such a problem, are you sure?

yup... its a mixture of force feedback and my slow sim. I'll pull back on the stick and the force will be delayed, it'll kick the stick forward pitching the plane forward and again a delayed force... it oscillates like that til i can get it back under control. I'll try flying with no force or resistance and see how I go

Disable the force feedback and enjoy the delights of the Microsfot Microsoft Force Feedback 2 joystick... ;)...!

Isn't that a bit of an oxymoron??

I may be confused but if you disable force feedback via the control panel you stick won't just go limp.

HMMM something just doesnt sound right there ;D

It should still have some stiffness but you won't have the forces of landing, firing etc.. As long as it is powered up. In other words it should stand at attention.

WOW, just no way to go about saying anything without it sounding wrong

I just tried mine after locating it in the closet no software loaded or anything and once the sim starts it stiffens up and works fine just minus the forces.

Yes, I think you could be right, I don't have my powerpack connected and mine is a gameport model, so I get zero force.

I have my power pack connected to my joystick, and with the Force Feedback, etc, reduced to zero in the Joystick Properties in Windows, my joystick becomes completely limp, just as I like it, (but not to the satisfaction of Jordan!.. ;)...)...!
LOL...!

In normal flight, cruising under quiet conditions, the yoke in the real Cessna 152 has little or no force applied to it during the flight...!
The yoke/joystick is "floppy" most of the time in a real aircraft...!
Only violent changes in direction or bumpy weather produces a tempory feedback force on the yoke/joystick.
The aircraft is normally flown with just the finger tips held lightly on the yoke.
...there are no return springs on them...;)...!

Cheers all...!

Paul...8)...!

P.S. This is the main reason for using a "Force Feedback" type joystick for flight simulators, which is not fitted with a "return to centre spring" common on "game" joysticks, correctly mimicking the yoke/joystick in real aircraft, which are always "floppy"... ;)...!

I had a funny feeling that there would be a barage of inuendos and double entendre.

Politically Incorrect - mine does the exact opposite. As soon as FS starts it looses its stiffness and goes completely limp... (reckon i should see eomeone about that XD)

(It seems i'm dealing out a few inuendos of my own)

Fozzer - You are correct there, but it depends on how well you have it trimmed. You feel forces on the yoke if it isn't trimmed correctly.

...after having experienced 72 years of having my hair "trimmed", I take equal care in "trimming" my Real, and Sim, Cessna 152's...;)...!

When you can fly "hands off" you know you have trimmed correctly...
...the same applies to my motor-bike... ;D...!
LOL...!

Paul..."short back and sides, please..."...8)...!

P.S. during flight you spend more time trimming your aircraft with the trim wheel than you do fighting with the flight yoke...trust me... ;)... ;D...!

True, but I'm a student pilot atm, and my instructor loves messing with the trim to see how well I cope holding the cessna steady :P
