DVD Players.

We have two stand alone DVD players that the kids use in their bedrooms (saves us being subjected to BARNEY :o

). For some reason both of them seem to have stopped reading DVDs. I have tried cleaning the DVDs, that didn't work. I have bought a Lense cleaner ..... that won't load.
When you close the tray the screen shows that the DVD is loading ........and stays that way.
Anyone got any ideas what the problem may be?
cheers
eno

Have you got CODECS to read them?
Although WMP will play them it needs a CODEC, they aren't free.

I'd like to know how I can convert .wmv files to those readable by your garden variety DVD player. Any help, gents?
Per eno's problem: I have seen this before. I've always chalked it up to a poorly recorded or encoded disk. I'm guessing there is some kind of information in the very outside (or inside) tracks of the disk that tell the player how to play it. If that info is screwy, damaged or not quite right, the disk will set there and "load" forever. I just trash those...

Well DVDs play in VOB format. So get a .WMV to.VOB converter then burn it in nero.

Information for the asking from around the world! Isn't this internet thing grand?! Long may it stay in American hands. Can you imagine what would happen to it if the UN controlled it?
Please explain what VOB is so I have some idea as to what I'm trying to do. I'm a bit of a technogeek and like to know about these things for my own enlightenment.
Thanks.

my problem, and this happened with my cable box, my DVD player, and my VCR, is overheating. the component just got too hot. are the DVD playes under or on top of anything that would obstruct the airflow.
that always solved my problems, just put up a fan near it for extra air flow, espically since most media equip don't have fans.

Actually, the internet is controlled by webmasters which litter the globe.

You don't need to convert WMV files. You can use Nero (Or most disk burning software) to burn video files onto a VCD, which should be readable in most dvd players

An MP3 will produce video? I thought they were for music only.
I want to put .wmv files of several hundred Mb onto DVDs for easier transport. Please tell me in layman's terms how I do it. Thanks.

Try MP4 not MP3. MP3 is just audio.
