Laptop Choices Help Please!

Postby Mobayrasta1 » Sun Mar 05, 2006 1:02 am

I am getting ready to buy my wife a laptop. She will be using it for internet and graphics programs such as Photoshop and lots of media intensive stuff such as video editing. I have set the limit to spend at 1600 dollars. Currently I am leaning towards these two models.

and

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6834115320

I like the resolution on the second one, but I belive the graphics card in the first one is better and it has twice the amount of RAM.

Could I get some expert opinions on which one is better. And also what is the diffrence in the two types of processors. Is the duo-core 1.6 as fast as the 2.0ghz pentium m?

Any others that you think would be better in the same price range?

www.cyberpowerinc.com
www.ibuypower.com
www.alienware.com

You can get amazing systems from those companys, and get much better GPUs and CPUs. Alienware is now offering the GO7800GT so you should check that out. Also remember that it may be cheaper to just buy a 1GB kit from newegg and get only 256MB with the laptop when you get it. Swapping RAM is very easy in lappys.

Total was $1536.00

But it is all mute now. I bought a Dell 9300 with 2.26ghz processor, 2 gigs of 533, a Geforce 7800GTX (woot). And a 60 gig 7200rpm HD for about the same money, from a guy at www.notebookforums.com there are some killer deals in their buy sell forum. I bought it from a big reseller on there and he is well trusted. It is his personally modded computer.

Thanks for all the info guys.

Howd he manage to get the 7800 in there. I was under the impression that you couldn't change your GPU in a lappy.

umm cameron ever wonder why they sell Readon Mobility or GeForce Go cards seperatly at big wearhouse stores? The 7800GTX Go can be put into any laptop with the mobil GPU slot (i forget the name).

There are many models of laptop where you can change out the GPU. Just make sure that the laptop you buy does not have an intergrated video card. Most hihgher end laptops now use a mini pci express slot for the graphics card.

I knew about miniPCI, however I was under the influince that the GPU was built onto the MOBO. Anyway sounds like you have quite a nice lappy.
