I give up

Well, that's it, I give up.

Doesn't matter what I do, I can't get rid of either those dam.n flickers or those dam.n stutters.

I might as well limit my framerate to 15 fps, because that's how the sim runs in a turn even if my framerate is above 70 fps.

And the flickers...the best way to describe them is that there's almost like it's "crawling" in the scenery.
On the ground, on the edges of buildings, trees, bridges...everywhere.

I think I'll put the sim on the shelf for a while, it just makes me frustrated.

You have a nice graphics card, These problems are similar to what my sim does if it needs to load once and a while........ I'm guessing a faulty card (If you bought it in a store just find out RMA info and send her in for fix/new) Or, get another card.... RMA might be expensive because your not in USA......... so maybe out of the question, is FS the only game that does it? and never give up in the world of computers, I did a little bit and tried FS one day and it worked fine! Cheers, Gunny

Curious which driver you are using?

I had some troubles with a few of the newer drivers until I tried the 82.12.

I had anything from some flickering to complete graphics corruption. The 82.12's fixed all of it.

So why do you think ATI is better than Nividia? (I currently have ATI).

Not much of a reason imo, ATI can hardly knock Nvidia in the driver department, the support behind Nvidia cards is whats kept me with that brand.

A quote from the "README" file with EA Games's Battlefield 2 V1.2 Patch.

KNOWN ISSUE
ATI CROSSFIRE CARDS
- Crossfire cards with 256 Megs of memory, running in CrossFire mode will run out of memory at very high resolution settings.
On very high resolutions, such as 1920x1440 with 6x antialiasing. In CrossFire mode the ATI drivers are more restrictive
about where resources are allocated, and as a result run out of memory sooner than with a single board. This running out of memory causes
the device context creation to fail. The result is that the game just sits in a loop with a black screen. If you experience a context creation failure
change your resolution to a lower setting (e.g. 1024x768 or even lower).

I know of plenty of other issues with other games & ATI hardware.

A Pretty crap situation for a

ATI and Nvidia both make very good cards but are nothing compared to my first voodoo.  enough of the fanboyism we are trying to be help this poor fellow.

Does this problem happen in all games?

When you game do you get systm crashes?

Do you ever get nvidia sentinal mesages?

Actually I use the one that came with the card (71.24). I have tried the later Forcware drivers, not exactly sure what their versions was, but some of them have made the flickering worse and some have made the system unstable. But I can't guarantee that I installed them correctly either.
I don't know if I've tried the 82.12 driver.
Maybe I should give it a try, can't get worse...

download 3dmark and see if you have the same problem:
you should be able to run the 06 verision or 05 (all be it very jerky) run them a a few times and see if you have the same problems you do in flight simulator.  Also please post the score you got as low performance is a good indication of something faffed up.

DO NOT RUN 3DMark06

3DMark06 was developed for SLi / Crossfire systems. According to Gamespot.com two 7800GTs on a NF4x16 board got 6FPS on many of the tests. The only card that has been able to get a decent score in 3D06 in a single format was the ATi X1900XTX

Use 3DMark05. It was developed when your card came out, and therefore can accurately test it.

I've installed the 82.12 driver, and the flickering was reduced. They are not completely gone but it's much better.
The stuttering is either better or worse.

Well, I've run 3DMark05 and I got a score of 2768.
But I have no idea if that's good or bad or whatever.
I can't say I had good framerates on the tests...

Which is why you don't need to bother with benchmarks, they mean nothing.

FS9 using one 7800 GT I average 60 fps, full settings, bad weather you name it doesn't drop below (oh BTW that is with frames limited to 60 ;)  )

When i set it to use the second card for AA, the same but better performance.

When set at unlimited FPS it will average 70 and as high as 98.

Don't need no benchmarks to tell me that the 7800 kicks arse ;)

Back to the topic I still think it is your drivers, each sysem will run different with various drivers the ones that work for me may not perform the best with your set up, so you may want to try a few more.
But be certain to completely remove the left overs of old drivers before installing new ones, using Driver Cleaner is highly recommended.

Just installing a bunch of different drivers without removing the old ones can cause just as many problems as running the wrong ones ;)

May also want to check you DirectX, make sure your running the most current 9c I think.
