I seem not to be getting the preformance that I was looking for in my new computer :(

I am getting about 20-40 with the graphics farely high, i could go higher

PLEASE HELP

youll be able to max out your settings and get around 60+ FPS. However may I suggest the EVGA card over the XFS

I would totally go EVGA over XFX..

And yes, you do get 60 FPS with the 256 MB version

I'm on the 512 MB version and i'm averaging arround 60-90 FPS.

Even with the 7800 GTX I keep my FPS locked at 30. I ran unlimited for a while and saw no appreciable difference at the higher frame rates.

I run the BFG card but I also recommend the EVGA as it has a higher overclock coming out of the box and the RMA rate is much lower than the BFG according to the computer store I shop at.

richardd43 " I ran unlimited for a while and saw no appreciable difference at the higher frame rates".

Well ahh, here's a little bit of physiology for you.  Unless you are a member of the feline family or a bird prey you won't see any difference in frame rates once they get past 24 or so.  Because, it is medical fact that the human visual cortex can only perceive up to around 24 FPS give or take.  That's why standard motion picture speed is 24 FPS.  Hollywood knew that for years.  Now,  a cat can percieve up to 40 FPS, an eagle or a hawk up to 60 FPS.   Okay, what are your specific settings in FS and what do you do with your PC in preparation for flight?

Gary, If you are a asking me what I do to my PC before flight the answer is nothing, I turn it on and fly. As far as the settings go I run most of the goodies maxed out. I have a little problem with the clouds so have them turned down to medium.

Who cares about most frames? Just need at least 10+ For FS to run smooth, the more you get, not much good its doing, just giving you a big lee way for heavy addons etc.... if you get like 60+ Just lock it at 30 and let stuff load faster... I dont get over 6-10 in some places with my 6200 and all settings in FS Maxed, but its still smooth most of the time! Cheers, Gunny

Nah you really want it at around 25-30 for best performance.

I think what Gary says is scientific evidence to keep it that way - unless of course your pet cat likes FS. ;D

Im running a ASUS Extreme N7800GT 256MB, which is a Dual VGA card :)

Im getting very good, even great frames (on a default plane with full settings, highest screen resolution, two layers of clouds a constant 60+

However its not only your GPU which needs to be good, my motherboard for example has been designed for especially the Geforce 7800, and processor, RAM etc all counts aswell.  :)

You're going to find this card great if you get it:

Relative 3D graphics performance:
Geforce 7800 GPU's: 41X
Geforce 6800 GPU's: 24X
Geforce 6600 GPU's: 16X
Geforce 6200 GPU's: 5X

Hope it helps  :)

Cameron

PS. Hope you have a good time with your new card.

Ok, well fps in fs is hard to measure, are you getting 20fps in KSEA or 20fps in the middle of the Pacific? Lets face it boys and girls the FS engine kinda sucks. FS9 was relised back in the days of the FX5200 cards. We are now in the 7800 series and big cpu advances yet fs still wont run over that 25fps in ksea. The hardware of today should and would handle fs like childs play but the game engine is the limiting factor.

Also rember FS engine is heavily reliant on the CPU to do the work. Ever run the CPU test on 3dmark05, we all know how well that runs, think of fs the same way just not as dramatic.

I am a BFG fan but I hear XFX uses really good ram chips that oc very well.

You gotta be totally kidding me.  :o
Listen, if im at KSEA, I probably run at around 50 frames fullest settings, highest screen res and weather of choice, and also traffic set to 100% with loads of add-on traffic.

Take a look, here it is higher at near 80 frames at KSEA, full settings, 1280X1024 screen res, Silverwings Nice day weather and 100% AI Traffic.

Image

Its easy to get over 25+ frames with a Geforce 7800 at KSEA, heck even in payware addon scenery like FlyTampa Midway which is much heavier than KSEA, it would be rare to see frames drop below that.  ;)

I meant for it to be an example, they were numbers pulled out of my arse...

anyway the numbrs were quite accurate. I did go to Ksea, dusk, overcast in default cessna with FS environment and FSAtmosphere I got 25-35 fps. This is everything maxed, scenery at extremely dense, max LCD res, max hardware lights, Large texture size, Bilinear filtering etc etc.

In video card properties I have 8xS AA, 16x AF, Image Quality = High, Mipmaps Forced = Trilinear, Gamma Correct AA = On, Transparency AA = Supersampling, Vsync = On.

My system is =
DFI Nf4 Ultra-D
AMD 3700+ San Diego
1 gig OCZ 2-2-2-5
BFG 7800GTX

I am not sure if you truly have max settings how my system can be doing so much worse than yours unless you have some kind of suoper system? ??? Id like to know how to get those kind of fps though.
