Laptop Video cards.

Postby Saitek » Mon Dec 26, 2005 3:39 pm

Can someone explain them to me? I just can't find any info about them and have no idea how good they are in comaprison to normal cards in the "normal computers".

In the link below is a 128mb Radeon Xpress 200M. I have a A Radeon 9600XT what is the comparison?
Compaq

In this really expensive high end gaming laptop they have a Geforce Go 6600 and I have no idea how that ranks either.

Toshiba

I'd appreciate your comments as it is the one thing I don't understand the quality of when I am looking at laptops.

If you really want a laptop that can be used for quality gaming, then your going to have to spend quite a bit of money. In 99% of the cases laptops can't be upgraded in the video card department, those which can need special types. Thats more a heads up thing. ;)

Well that shouldn't be a huge problem. Try to find one with a card made by the bigger name brands. While you dont need a top of the line one, a low-end brand name one beats an-onboard chip. I have the ati mobility radeon 9000IGP, while not a great card, compaired to my old onboard chip the differance is huge.

Well as I was saying Craig, I don't recognise the card names. They are different from "normal" cards. What do you make of those?

Oh and I would never buy a laptop with an onboard chip - no way. ;)

For what it costs the Compaq is a great buy looking at the specs. Some people say compaqs should be avoided but mines been fine. Apart from the hard-drive crash which I think was more overuse (15 hours a day 7 days a week) than poor quality.
