I just saw this on my ISP site concerning my hub.

Installation note:  You will need a CAT 5 Ethernet Cable for every Ethernet device you will be connecting  (click here).. The cable will go from the Ethernet device to the Ethernet Port on the back of the 5-Port Switch.

Does this sound like a reasonable warning, or is it the same kind of disclaimer nonsense that tells you to wear a grounding strap everytime you open up your PC?

My wife and I are networked to each other's puters and the net at home through a hub. Our IT tech at work walked us through the set up and he specified that we would have to use cat 5 cables to make it work as well.

Whoops, I suppose I should be more specific.

I ask because perhaps this is where all my troubles stem from.  I recall Congo dismissed the issue, however I'm using two CAT6s and one CAT5.  Either way, it shan't make a difference, as I can't rectify the problem, assuming there even is one.  Money's a tricky thing ain't it?

If the cable works it should be fine. I don't even know the differences between the different categories without looking it up

Well, my network doesn't really work, since it's not a network; only one computer can be used at a time.  As it is though, I'm the only one who ever uses it, so I'll pretty much leave it as it is.  It is food for thought once I return from my vacation though (no use in fretting over the LAN, I leave in a week).
