For the past few months I've been toying with newegg building the computer of my dreams (I doubt I'm the only one guilty of it) The computer will be built for but not limited to fs9 using fsuipc and of course widefs to control Simkit hardware along with some homebuilt items. Now to the question... would fsuipc along w/ widefs bog down a single core FX55 or 57 (depends on how frisky I'm feeling when i push the purchase button) to the point where i would have been better off with a X2 4800+? I know that if I were just running FS then the FX would be the obvious choice but I dont know how demanding the outside apps pull on the processor.

For all around computing and to future proof your purchase I would go with the 4800.

I have the 4400 and have never regretted buying it.

Well I have almost as much running on a hyperthreaded core, so a FX57 should be okey, but if you feel you need the duel core for that small increase in preformance then go ahead and spend.

As it is now the dual core is running about 250 cheaper. After doing some research I've found that the FX's would give me much better frame rates with FS alone. Also running Megascenery, US Roads, MSG2005, and UT2005 (Everyone says that one is killing me)

The dual core will be a good option, it has an actual second processor unlike the P4 and can do 64-bit, which from various demonstrations of 64-bit modified games they run amazingly well.  This is due to the doubling of the amount of data the processors can do at once moving from 32-bit to 64-bit.

Also most new games coming out now and in the future make use of dual core/dual processor systems.  ;)

Well I was trying to get input comparing the X2 4800+ with the FX55/57 as stated in my first post. I read today that AMD should be bringing out n FX60 as well as a X2 5000 http://theinquirer.net/?article=27201 http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=27283 I'm going to hold off on puchasing for the moment after the realease of the new AMDs, prices should drop for both the 55 and 57, however I believe I'd be more apt to buy an X2 5000+ rather than the X2 4800+. Even after overclocking the 4800+ it doesn't stand up to the 57 reliably. Still tossing the idea around. Has anyone got any experience using the X2 4800+ with scenery and AI traffic enhansments?

It's very good if you know how to Overclock etc. Personally i would go for it, because saving around

The CABNE was a cpu stepping that's no longer available, the current hot item is another cpu stepping altogether, I saw others referencing the older stepping by mistake.
