I just added a third HD (SATA 36G Raptor) for use in gaming. My OS is presently in the Primary Master drive (80G PATA). Do I have to tranfer OS to the new drive to maximize on its performance?

You should see a decent increase in everyday performance (quicker response/loading times) with the OS on the SATA Raptor rather than the PATA. I would reinstall the OS onto the Raptor myself. Use the other drives for storage and backups -- anything you don't use frequently. All else on the Raptor.

Thanks Weatherman. What's the best way to install the OS on the Raptor? Can I copy it straight from the old drive to the new drive? Or do I have to install the OS from the disk (I have the license)  If I do that I may have to load SP2 which was an add on.

Well I used nortan disk partition (or something like that) when I went to install a new OS onto my sisters new 74G Raptor. Just format it, partition it, and pop in the XP disk. Tell it where you want to install XP, then youll spend the next three or four houres getting all the new updates installed. After your done with that, uninstall the old OS.

Be careful with the disk though, 34G goes really fast, espishally if you intend to put alot of addons into your FS

Duh! Come to think of it I really don't know what made me decide to buy a Raptor with it's limited memory (36G) when I could've bought a PATA with ten times the capacity for the same price. But now that I have it installed, what kind of programs do you think will benefit from its performance. I'm still having reservations (unsure) regarding transferring directly the OS from the old existing drive to the Raptor.

I wouldn't, a new drive is a good excuse to piece together a new op sys, fresh and clean. IF you want to, you can always put the other op sys on later if you don't like the new setup.

Don't transfer the OS, format and reinstall it. That's the only sure way to avoid data corruption which inevitably happens when copying GBs of information. Further, it'll allow you to have the OS as the C: drive rather than whatever the Raptor is now.
