nvidia video card problem

I just got a new nvidia card.  Got the drivers installed and fired it up.  It defaults to 8bit 800x600 and when I try to change it I get a message so the effect that there is some kind of problem with new hardware.  I didn't get much help from the included CD.

Sorry, but I only know enough about computers to be dangerous!

Hmm, try uninstalling the driver and use driver cleaner pro.

Then install new drivers from nvidia.com. The drivers on the CD that came with your card are almost always outdated.

If that doesn't solve your woes, you may have a defective card. Test the card out in another computer you have that works. If it still has that problem, send it back to the store for a replacement.

BTW, what nvidia card is it? (model number?)

Sorry, but I only know enough about computers to be dangerous!

I know too much about computers and am still dangerous...

"Got the drivers installed and fired it up."

No you didn't. That's why it's defaulting to garbage settings and giving you errors.

You need to properly install the drivers, and if they won't install, (sometimes there is no error), then you need to find out why, it's usually a bad setting unless the card is faulty.

Turns out it was a defective card.  I'm sending it out tomorrow to exchange for a new one.

Thanx for the help, and happy (simulated) flying!

Fancy hardware faults always occur here. This is just one of those rare times that its not the buyer's fault...

I never went as far as making that conclusion.

I never went as far as making that conclusion.   The poster freely admitted the possibility of danger  ;D

I stand correct it.

I meant:
This is just one of those rare times that its possibly not the buyer's fault...
