Upgrading...again

Well, I have a need. A need for upgrading. (pardon the bad parody)

Unfortuately, I have no idea what to upgrade.

I plan on getting some water cooling for the GPU's and some vapochill for the CPU on comp 1, but thats it. I ran out of things to upgrade.

I was wondering if you guys had any ideas.

One of my friends told me to try putting two audigy 4 pro cards in one PC and using 16 channels of audio. I'm not quite sure that will work nor would be really make anything sound better. Any ideas on this?

So, congo or gunnerman or anybody, any ideas on what to upgrade?

Well I would put a 15,000RPM HDD in your second computer. I would also set up ithor vapchill, or watercooling for both rigs and overclock the heck out of everything. And finally (im going to get pimp slapped for this) On PC 2 (which is obviously your gaming rig) Get a wintowed case, LED fans, and Cathodes. Heck yoiu spent a good $2000+ ofr it, why not show it off?

Cheers

How many screens do you have on one PC?, if only one, add another and show me how too.

I have an old spare one but where to plug into the 6600.

Sorry for intruding,

Not sure the thinking behind this. As far as I know, you can't use soundcards in parallel (SLI-like). It would probably lead to conflicts rather than help anything.

If you're not doing a RAID, that would be a simple upgrade. Either a RAID 0 with the two SCSI drives or RAID 0 with the 4 SATA drives would absolutely smoke.

Well, I searched around twenty stores on foot today searching for my new kit.

I'm looking for the latest wireless modem/router/ATA device/switch/VoIP compatible (phone port)/ inline filter/ QoS managed/SPI/Australian ISP preconfigured/emergency fallback ALL IN ONE BOX device (plus even more features)

Yup they exist and are inexpensive, but you may have to educate your local suppliers, no one here knew what the heck I was talking about, though one telecom guy had heard of slightly older technology.

but, then, I dunno what you are using now....

Thats what I thought.

Yeah, I'm doing RAID 0 with both.

No, I don't actually. However, I can help you out. Just plug the second moniter into the second dvi connector on your 6600. Then goto display properties and then to settings. And then configure the second display (resolultion etc.). Very simple.

BTW, congo, what are you talking about? I have no need for new networking equiment...yet.

Unfortuately, 15000 rpm drives only come with scsi connectors, so my second computer is out. The reason I have them on my 1st comp is b/c it has built-in scsi ultra320 68-ping connectors on the mobo. I plan to overclock both computer's CPUs with vapochill and the vid cards with water. Right now, I'm deciding on implementation (what kind of pump I will use, etc.). Overclocking is overclocking (I do it anyway), but what I want to do is upgrade.

As for 'pimping' my gaming rigs (I actually use both for gaming), I actually have no experience in doing that. I have never had a windowed case (very few of them are big enough to hold all the hardware I put in) and have never put an LED in any case. I'll need some more info on this. If I cannot think of anything else to upgrade, I may consider this as another "upgrade path".

Well if you read Maximum PC the full ATX that they put their Dream Machine in was windowed, and should hold your componants very nicely.

I was refering to hardware similar to the stuff in the links I provided, less cabling, a neat 1 box solution with easy setup. You know, for the man who has everything....  ;D

I have finally found something worth upgrading to.

Check out this obscenely excessive (for my intended purpose) motherboard from tyan:

This thing will make AutoCAD and XSI fly and murder bf2.

If you run BOINC in the background on that thing, you'd be in the top 1000 on everything in little time......

Wanna run it FOR me?   lol  ;D

Despite its holy goodness, I can't buy it...yet.

I can't find a place to buy.

The current tyan motherboard I got from connections with a friend who worked at CDW.

Unfortuately, CDW does not carry this uber mothrboard in stock. Too few requests for this board...wonder why...

So, until I can find one, I'm stuck with this 'obselete' tyan motherboard with support for only a 'measily' 2 CPUs.
