after I have started FS 2004 and flew some time, I get an error message saying "your computer has run out of avaible memory. Flight simulator will now exit. You may not have enough free space on your hard drive. Run Disk Cleanup to free up space and then try running Flight simulator again"

I can say that I have 2 harddisk om my PC C disk (NTFS)with my XP installed, and D: disk (removal FAT 32 for use in another PC too ) with my FS 2004 installed.
and I have 50 GB space on C:disk and 40 GB space on D:disk.
so what shall I do ?? and how to adjust the virtual memory to the best size ?
right now I have virtual memory  C : 2048 - 4048
                                                   D :       2 - 4095
and if I want to change it it says it have to be less than 4096 MB.
I tried to look  at Windows Joblist when I broke down and it showed size on pagefile use at 1,63 GB.
what do I do for making it not brake down time after time when flying FS 2004 ??

My PC data :
Pentium 4 3,0 Ghz,
2024 GB Ram,
GeForce GT 6800 GT with 256 MB Ram
hope somebody can help me

You have 2 gigs of ram and lots of free space. You shouldn't be running out of memory, either virtual or physical.

Page file use of 1.63 gigs is a bit excessive, considering how much ram you have. Use an anti-virus and an anti-spyware to make sure none of that is causing this.

I think this is a problem with flight simulator, but first, run a mem test to see if your RAM is bad. If its not that, reinstall FS2004.

If it is the RAM, you need new RAM.

Some motherboards may become unstable with 4 DIMMS installed (assuming you have 4x512). Try removing one or two of the RAM sticks and test.

Optimal config will be 2x512 or 2x1024.

FS9 and almost all other games do not ever use more than 1GB RAM while playing.

I usually recommend pagefile to be set to let windows manage it with WinXP. Otherwise, something like 512-512 or 1024-1024 should be plenty. You definately don't need more than that with 1GB+ RAM. If you are actually using that much pagefile you have some other issue that needs sorting -- spyware or faulty application (memory leak) could be the cause.

Set it to auto and see if it works........ I think you have too large a pagefile assigned as well. 4gb isn't required I wouldn't think.

Remember, you probly have system restore using heaps of HD space as well as a reserve for the recycle bin on top of your pagefile and stored data.

I want to say thanks to :the_autopilot,Weather_Man and congo for your reply to help me.
I have tried as You told me to let windows manage it, and until now it seems to work okay, hopefully it will continue with that !!
I have also removed the pagefile on the HD where FS 2004 is installed so now is there only a pagefile on my C: HD.
once again thanks for the help, it good to know where to ask when problems come.
