Help setting 6600gt for fs9

Postby luke » Fri Sep 02, 2005 5:22 pm

As newbee to decent grfx, I find the defaults on fs9 display is the best I can achieve.

Any of the settings I alter make things worst.

Cloud settings, base and tops come way out.

How do you get crisp clear sky above cumulus tops, with unlimited viz only ?.

When draging with mouse the FSNav window, over the windscreen, it leaves

The 6600 gt is a pretty decent ard, you should be able to pull more than defualt settings.

One big issue with fs9 is to set AA and AF through the drivers rather than through the game.

Also, limit your fps to something between 30-60.

Nvidia drivers come from nvida.com. Those are th official driver and will work fine. Generally, don't use the drivers on the cd that came with the card.

I use the 77.77 fdrivers for my 6600GTs and lock the FPS at 30 and FS9 runs great. I can't run everything at max but everything looks pretty decent.

thanx,
installed the 77.7, but forgot to delete the old ones first.

How to set AA through drivers? Is now set in fs9 display.

Fs9 Hardware found at:- Target Frame rate slider 30  & 800x600x16

Cloud at overcast before was overcast 8/8, & cloud base & tops were fairly accurate. Now with 500 to 2500ft set, they go up to 6000ft with brakes. Is that normal?

Some planes have jaggered edges, and objects are shimmering + mooving jaggered edges.

Do these print screens show the state I am in?.

I saw the experts remarking on them, but I have no idea what it means.

Hi Luke...!

Forget all about the frame-rate grabbing, detailed clouds, etc...!
Set up your own simple Weather...

....and set your realistic visibility to 5-10-20 miles max...

Don't  set your weather to unrealistic high detail if you want to fly with decent frame-rates...
I happily chuff along a 30 FPS, (locked),  everywhere with sensible weather settings on my 6600 GT OC 525 Mhz,  AGP, 128 Mb card...!
...sorted...!

Thank you Paul,
Clouds were a constant issue in my life and would like to reproduce them here the best I can, more than the scenery objects.
I tried high settings and the flying was not affected much.

What I can not reproduse is there quality and the sky clearness around them.

There are 3 - 4 different places in FS9 for setting weather & clouds, I fuble from one to the other and c'nt really make sence of it. Is there a secuence to it?

I purchased the VFR scenery & terrain and find it very accurate for map reading.

Is the fps LOCKED when it shows 30 above the slider in hardware?

I found in Nvidia setup an AA setting, which setting though does one use?, trial & error?           luke

Hi Luke...!
I generated a thread dealing with setting up the Weather some time ago...
...but as always....I can never find it... :'(...!

Anyway, try this sequence...>>>

Settings:
Weather:
Clear Skies: Start with clear skies...
User Defined Weather:
Customise Weather: Set the conditions to suit...
Advanced Weather: Set the conditions to suit...

Ok
OK
OK

Set up each of those options to suit yourself...

Sorted...!

...lots of dense 3D clouds will trash your frame-rates.

Remember, most flying days in GA aircraft, the weather is fine, a few whispy clouds, slightly misty, and visible distance distance set at around 10 miles...

Lock your frame rate to your average frame rate, (Min-Max)...!
If you frame rate averages between 25 and 40 FPS, lock it at 30 FPS for smooth running... 8)...!

Cheers Luke...!

...don't go overboard with impressive weather if you want decent frame rates and smooth flying...
...unless you really want to impress you mates with fantastic screen shots... ::)... ;)... ;D...!

Remember. If it rains, your aircraft will get wet...!

Hi Luke, me 'ol Mate... ;D...!

Follow me down the garden path...

Assuming that you have got the game up and running...

Bring up the Menu with the "Ctrl" key...

Go to...

Options > Settings > Display > Hardware tab >

Here you get all your Graphics settings.

Note the Target Frame Rate slider, set it to equal your AVERAGE frame rate.

As an example: If your frame rate is 50 over sparse land/water, and is 20 over built-up areas, then set your Target Frame Rate to 30....this will ease the load on your processor and graphics card... ;D...!

There you go, Luke....wasn't that easy-peasy... 8)...!

...and what did you think of my garden flowers...?
LOL...!

Cheers Luke...!

Hi Luke...!

Press "Shift" plus "Z" keys, (a number of times)...

Each time you press this combination you will get different read-outs, including the Frame Rates while you are flying, etc... ;)...!
The read-out will appear at the top of your screen, up-dating in real time.

Cheers Luke...!

It will all come together before Xmas....trust me... ;D...!

Crackey Paul,
now it makes sence, tried F16 & piper cub, city & wilderness with fp from 30 to 80 and I guess it averages 30.

I had scenery on very high with 7/8 cumulus, but is no where near on base & tops levels.

It flys OK & I guess I'll sort it out gradually.

Thanx                  luke
