Need your help!

Postby DC-3 » Sun Aug 21, 2005 2:28 pm

Ok, while my computer has been having numerous problems, I have decided to just rebuild the whole thing, and I was hoping you guys could give me some names of items I could buy. I am looking for cheap-middle ranged priced stuff, and preferrably names I have heard of before :P Okay, I am looking for a new hard drive, mother board, sound card, and graphics/video card. I want stuff that will run fast, and I wont have to upgrade anything for at least 2 years.

Right now I'm running an ASUS A7V8X-X series mother board, ASUS V415 Graphics card, and the sound card is built into the mother board and is made by Soundmax. (how many of you have even heard of ASUS??? lol)The hard drive I currently have I will keep in the computer, but I'll just use it for a back up hard drive/some thing to keep my files not that important on.

Any help would be appretiated, and sorry for the long post.

P.S. Could anybody direct me to a good site where I can buy this stuff online?

I recommend newegg.com. They have the best deals and plenty of products to select from. Tigerdirect.com is also good.

If you want the computer to being reasonably up-to-date for 2 years, cheap-middle ranged stuff will not work. You'll probably want a lower end of a high-end machine.

I suggest the following:
Asus nforce4 SLI
A dual core CPU (4400 or 4800)
A 6800 GT or anything more powerful.
An Audigy 2 sound card (buy this only if you demand verg good sound and have a very good speaker setup), integrated sound on the asus mobo is pretty decent.
DDR400 memory (registered or unbuffered; I prefer registered)
A SATA HD with NCQ (Native command queing), choose a size that fits your usage.
Windows XP Pro OEM CD (I assume your not going to be running linuex, OEM cd's are cheaper than retail)

I agree with AP, mid range wont last. Shell out the big bones now so when you sart to get slow you dont need to upgrade everything, you can say my CPU is the slowest ill upgrade that. Midrange you wont have compatible parts worth an upgrade etc.
