Question on Realistic looking graphics..

Ok, I know that Fs9 has some wonderful graphics, but I can not seem to get the 'photo quality' that some have screenshots of.

System specs:
AMD Athlon +3200xp (stock) Watercooled
3GB of DDR400 RAM
200GB SATA 10,000RPM HDD w/8mb Cache
Asus A7N8X-Deluxe Motherboard
ATI x700Pro w/512MB (Stock)
Soundblaster Live! Audigy 2 XG
520Watt Powersupply

Now am running these settings:
Display
Terrain Mesh: 100
Texture Size: High
Terrain Detail: Land Only
Water Effects: High
Dawn/Dusk Texture Blending: On
Extended Terrain Textures: On
Special Effects: High
Scenery Complexity: Extremely Dense
Autogen Density: Extremely Dense
Add-on Dynamic: On/Extremely Dense
Ground Shadows Cast Shading: On
Sun Glare + Lens Flare: Off (Those get tiring and don't really add to the game)

Aircraft
Aircraft Details: **High**
Virtual Cockpit Gauge: High
Reflections: On
A/C Cast Shadows: On
Landing Lights: On

Weather
Sight Distance: 80 miles
Cloud Drawing Distance: 40 Miles
3-D Cloud Percentage: 100%
Detailed Clouds: On
Cloud Coverage: Mx

Hardware
1600x1200x32
Target Frames: 35
Render To Texture: On
Transform and Lighting: On
Anti-Aliasing: OFF (I let my x700 run this)
Triliner Filtering
Mip Map: 4
Hardware Rendered Lights: 8
Global Max Texture: Massive

Sound
High

Traffic
100%

Yes, I can get 30-40FPS...even in New York or San Fran with 100% Traffic.

Now, here is what I don't understand. I can set the A/C Details to Ultra-High, but it will not save it at UH nor will it allows it to run UH...even if everything else is set to it's lowest settings.

I also set my ATI x700PRO to Quality settings...no change.

It seems that I am missing all the nice reflections and mirror-like textures on metels.

Here is what I was getting when I had AA turned on in fs9...but even with it off now, I still don't get the great graphics.

What I would like (this is the same aircraft but taken from someone else)

Can anyone help?

Hi and welcome to simv.
I am not 100% sure but can your video card produce those sort of graphics.

P.S. You need to resize your pictures and upload them to this site please. ;) Just one of the rules of the land.
Hope someone can help.

ATi X850 XT PE or the nVidia 7800GTX??? Other than that I dont know what your problem is. Mabe try updating to the catalyast 5.7 drivers.

bchott,

You are right; you should be getting much nicer airplane textures with your setup..
My system is not nearly up to yours in resources although my nvidia card is about the same price range/quality as yours.
My settings on average are about 10% lower than yours except for clouds and water detail which I keep on low..My FPS are capped at 30.

What are your AA settings at the ATI properties? As you know, turn AA of in the game  properties.

The pics below were at 4X AA which I run all the time on my system.

It looks like video drivers to me, maybe dry some different ones.
How about DX9 settings?  All display options enabled?

Could you post some shots that are similar to the ones you are referencing to? From a distance, the jaggies really start to show much more than from close in.

I must say, with an X700, your screenies should be blowing crap out of the water.

Are you running on an LCD or a CRT? Running off of native resolution on an LCD could ruin graphics.

Those two close ups are edited. Look at the heat waves under the engines on the third one.

Go to the control panel and force all setting to max good via the driver, that should/might help.

Thanks guys.

Well I have my ati set to AA of 8x and AF of 16x.

I get an average of 30-40fps in the air and 18-25 when at an airport or in populated airspace.

I checked around and those guys did edit their shots, so now I don't feel so 'had'.  Also, I finally am getting some nice shots after tweaking.

Take a look after I installed the Omega ATI drivers, turned off AA in FS9, and then did some FS9.cfg file tweaks.

These pictures were taken from a BASIC FS9 install without any add-ons except for the jets.

I have since reinstalled all my add-ons (free and pay) but these are 'virgin' FS9 shots.
