I juist installed the rear speakers in my simpit and then set up the surrouind sound functions in my Audigy ZS configuration. Did all the fine tuning of distances from my seat and the THX stuff and it sounded great in the Audigy demo mode.
Then I did some flying... and it seemed that the system was not giving me much three dimensional placement of sounds.
Does fs2004 support the 5.1 (front left and right and center, rear left and right, and subwoofer) format?
best,

I'm pretty sure it uses left/right channels as it works with my 5.1 setup.

Master of Disaster,
Thanks. What I am mainly not hearing is any real front / rear effects. When there is a plane behind me on the taxiway... I don't get the impression the sound is coming from back there.
Even the stereo side to side effects seem diminished now that I have gone the the 5.1 setup over just having the front left/center/right and the subwoofer.
But like I said........ the Audigy demo is amazing as the sound source circles around you.
best,

It doesn't work per se on my setup, however i feel it has added to my simming experience :)
As The Master of disaster/King of Sting/other rhyming couplets ;) said, it supports only left-right audio as far as i can tell, maybe someone can prove us wrong..
Still it's MUCH better than 2 channel audio, especially on take off!

I get left right audio here. I don't think fs2004 supports true 5.1 where it makes use of all the channels.

I never felt, even in stereo, that FS ever did a good job in spacial relationships. Even with one engine running on a twin, it didn't sound like only one engine was running on my left or right side, it sounded almost mono. I think that Microsoft really dropped the ball on the sound interface in flight sim.
