The woes of Intagrated Graphics.

Well I know that this has probibly been mentioned about a million times, but I figured Ide post it anyway.

I know that there are still some running on intagrated graphics. Mainly those who are on their parents computer, and cant afford a graphics card, or those who for some reason have a Dell 4600C / 4700C or the Like. Trust me I had a Dell and I feel your pain.

Now as your stuck at this crossroads at not having the resources to upgrade 200+ dollars I have a few simple tricks for you to try.

1.) Shut down almost every program before you fly. FS9 takes 43,556KB alone to run, and on intagraded this is harsh as we all know that its shared memory.

2.) Go into the controls for the "card" (found in "other options" in the controol panel) and boost all the settings to their max. I didnt even know I could do this until I was snooping around one day, and found it.

3.) Upgrade to 1 Gig of RAM. This will run you around $75 for two upper class sticks on Newegg.com. When I made this upgrade (before I built Shela) I noticed a major jump in graphics, and also i got about 3~5 FPS more, even with the higher settings.

Following these three simple steps your sim should run faster, and even look better. However I would start saveing up your cash to buy a graphics card / own system for when FSX comes out. Hell you and I know that your barely running FS9 as it is, so FSX will be a tad out of reach :(

Shela  ???  ;D

I would'nt advise spending money on a machine your trying to replace, that money would be better utilised in the new system. also, chances are the nasty Dell will require slow ish RAM (PC2100 for example) a modern p4 or Athlon 64 needs PC3200 or better to get the best from it, especially if you fancy some overclocking.

My old man won't let me near his old pII 266! despite the fact I'm 34 & build PC's as a hobby!  ;D - parents eh?

I would'nt fancy the chances of most Parents pc using kids being allowed to touch it in any way never mind a RAM upgrade!  ::) ;)

Huh intresting. Also (this from exprience) dells use PC2700 RAM so its not that bad. And most parents (that I know) dont know much about hardware, and as long as it makes it run faster they really dont care what it is.

Oh and BTW Shela is my baby computer.
