A new computer after all...

Well, after wanting to get a new graphics card for my Dell computer (having an integrated graphics card that's not very hip), I found out that the only cards I could get was PCI-cards and they won't do much differense.
At first I thought..., I can't afford a new computer right now, (especially after just styling my car with a nice bodykit...  ;)) But the will to fly in the MFS 2004 at high graphics settings without being able to count the frames took over...  ;)
So now I've ordered a new computer anyway.
Isn't it amazing how this sort of simulator can twist your mind...  ;)

This is the machine I'm hoping will do the job:

Intel Pentium 4 3,0 GHz 800/1M processor
1024 MB (2x512) PC400 DDRAM
MAXTOR DMAX 10 160 GB harddrive
ASUS GF6600GT/TD 128 MB PCI-E graphics card
and some other goodies

the old one was a Intel Celeron 2,4 GHz with 512 MB (2x256) and 40 GB harddrive and an integrated graphics card..................
You understand the problem...

That will do the job better than you could imagine!

Trust me, she will be a beauty, FS9 is very 6600GT Happy!

Has your board got two PCI-e sockets? I'd make sure it has, then, when funds allow, you could add a second 6600GT & run them in dual "SLI" mode.

FS9 won't benefit from SLI, but, future games certainly would.

Regardless of the dual PCI-e slots, the machine will perform VERY well in FS9.

Tell you the truth, I don't know if it has two PCI-E sockets. I'm not that good with computers.
I asked the guy in the computer store to put together a computer that would do the MFS 2004 justice, and this is what he recommended for me, in the pricerange I could afford that is.
Anyway, the mobo is called "MSI ATX I915P S775 P4 DDR2 PCIE GLAN".  ;)
That doesn't tell me much though...

Thanks for the info, a quick browse of the site tells me its a single PCI-e board.

Not really an issue, as you'll get good results from FS9.

I'd enjoy what you've ordered, its a good spec machine, you could always swap the motherboard at a future date.

My Machine has a 6800LE, very similar to the 6600GT in price & performance, I get great performance from FS9 despite my older slower cpu & cheap & nasty Motherboard!

To give you an idea of the performance differance between 1 & 2 6600GT's, 2 together are about as quick as a single 6800GT.

A 6800GT costs double what a 6600GT costs roughly, but, it offers considerably more performance, something you may wish to consider if your running FS9 at VERY high resolution and want to use Anti alaising so sharpen up your display.

I get smooth performance from FS9 @ 1280x1024 4xAA 4xAF and most sliders set high, no stutter's etc

Your machine is quite a bit faster than mine, I'd say you'll love it as is, but, if funds allow the 6800GT would be the best card to match the rest of your spec's.

Alas we all have to compromise, which is why I dont have a 6800 or Ultra...  ::)

Paul. :)

Well you wont be needing SLI anyway. Thats a good computer hes got going there for you. 6600GT is a VERY good card. Have fun!
