Zip Drives

I have an Iomega Zip250 Internal Drive which is now giving me trouble (Although recognized by my PC, (shows up in My Computer) it will not respond to command (eject,etc) nor would it recognize when I insert a zip floppy into it. I have about a dozen blank 250M and 100M zips. I have to decide whether I replace the zip drive, or get me some other storage device (another HD perhaps) Any opinion is aprreciated.

What operating system are you using and how old is the Zip Drive?

My OS is WinXP Home Edition. My existing Zip Drive was a surplus from an older Dell Computer. I can get a new similar replacement ZIP but it does not come with the accessories such as driver CD, cable, etc. Also I had the existing drive connected to a PCI EIDE afdapter card as my other EIDE mobo connectors are all being used. I contacted Iomega and I was told that I don't need a driver for the new ZIP drive. I just want to make sure it's IRQ won't conflict with others.

I don't have a problem with mine, but the ones at the school will sometimes exhibit the same symptoms without any success..;-)

Ya'll:
I think I've solved the problem. I connected the zip drive directly to the EIDE terminals on the motherboard and the system now works OK. this was suggested by the Iomega support group. Now I got the CD-ROM (master) and the ZIP250 (slave) on the Secondary IDE. My CD R/RW is connected to the PCI EIDE card while my two HDs are connected to the Primary mobo IDE connectors. May not be the best configuration but it seemed to work fine.

LOL, good question...
I guess they are good, but if you have a cd burner you really don't need them too much unless you are saving large files onto it from a pc which doesn't have a cd burner.. ;-)

Correction on my previous statement. The Zip drives will work on the mobo IDE terminals as well as on PCI IDE adapter terminals. The reason why my PC was having problem recognizing it was because one of the two PCI terminals was bad. When I moved it to the second terminal, it worked.
On the subject of whether the zip drive is worth the cost, it all depends. My reaons is that I inherited about 15 blank ZIP250 modules and I just want to be able to use them.
