I know that I never used to use floppys with the old computers at school. I think they were compaq and whenever you put your disk in, you'd get the strange noises and the disk in drive A is not accessible stuff. Then, when you tried to open it on another pc, kablaam - you couldn't (and then there were angry teachers expecting homework). With the new dells we've got in, you put the disk in and access it before you can say Idon'ttrust31/2floppyA's.  I think it's to do with the disk drive, the old ones NEVER worked with our disks, the new ones ALWAYS work. I use CD's anyway cause I've lost my trust for 3 1/2's (and you can store a lot more)

I find that the problem with using Cd's instead of floppy disks for temporary storage and transferring data, is that you have to have a CD re-writer tray on both computers.
...and the CD must, unfortunately, be "closed" before it can be read on a standard CD ROM, and therefore cannot be written to again... :'(...!

Floppy Disks are fine, if looked after, and can easily be transferred between computers.

I use them all the time for small text files, pictures, etc...

Paul.

Floppies??

I never use those. I flash my BIOS with a memory stick. Not a single one of my computers has a floppy disk drive.

I think I have a USB floppy drive somewhere.

Well, I have used handy recovery before Foz... Veyr good I have to say... The problem - the little silver bit had jammed! I took it out, gave it a pul, it clicked and seems fine now!
I use a memory stick at home, but col won't allow it. Meh...

Hmmm... I gotta try that. My hardly-used floppy is giving me trouble... keeps saying there's no disc, or sometimes the drive is not seen by the system... rrrgh!!

I love my useful floppy drive.... 8)...!

If every one had a floppy drive installed in their computers it would make it easy to transfer files, even on the very earliest computers without USB ports, memory sticks, CD re-writers, etc... ;)... ;D...!

I often pop round to my family and friends, with my trusty floppy disk in my pocket, ready to transfer the file(s) onto their computers....
...remember, not everyone has an Internect connection to transfer files between computers...Thats when the old Floppy comes in handy... ;D...!

Cheers all... 8)...!

Paul.

If everyone had a zip drive the world would be a better place IMO.

I once had a floppy disaster. I had a disk with several JPGs on it for a school project. they were arranged in 2 folders. I deleted one JPG, and the whole folder dissapeared! lost all of the pics that were in it! they had been collected over period of time from variouse scources and that was my only copy. I never did find them all again.

Zip drive you do say?

I've got an older iomega that will do up to 750MB zip disks! :-)
