How can I change the IRQ of my old internal modem.
Default brings on irq 5, but the modem requires irq11.
Is there a small progrm I can use ?

IRQ's are set from BIOS as the PC boots I think.......... there are BIOS options which control how those IRQ's are allocated but I'm not sure how your's works or how to set the Modem device IRQ from there.
BIOS options are usually either manual or auto IRQ control, I select auto exclusively unless there is a major problem.
Sometimes there is a secondary option in BIOS which allows BIOS detection of new devices each time the PC boots, or, the option disabled, it just remembers the previous configuration and attempts to configure the PC the same as the last boot.
If a new device is added, that "reset configuration data" (or similar) option may need to be enabled in order for the new hardware to be configured properly into the system, whereafter, it may be turned off again as the PC now recognises the new hardware and configures it properly, saving the data for the next boot.
I think if you go into Device Manager and go through the device properties and click the troubleshoot button, you can preset IRQ's from there, which become effective next time you reboot. Care needs to be taken when allocating the IRQ's in this way as you don't want to cause any further conflicts.
From memory, when IRQ's are allocated this way, there is a method of testing within device manager to see if conflicts occur.
Help and support needs to be turned on for this to work in WinXPpro SP2.

Found IRQ "change settings" & "use automatic settings" in the modem properties > resources, but are both grayed out. Nothing about IRQs
I removed this internal modem, booted-up & shut down, reinstalled modem & rebooted. This time it found its own IRQ.
Incidentally, is there a way to change Bios settings from within windows?
Thanx,

Not that I know of anyway.

Not all peripherals allow to change IRQ settings from within Windows, hence the grayed out options.
You did well! Removing+rebooting cleared the BIOS IRQ data. :)

clear escd isn't needed, as it has added the modem already to the hardware list
int11 is usually network
