hi all, i bought medal of honour pacific assualt today. only prob is i got it running, and its almost unplayable on my system......celeron cpu, 5700 gpu, 512 gig ram.
i posted a while ago and got some very helpfull info on this subject from asda_price and some others, and back then i was going to buy a new pc.   but funds are a bit short at the mo and ive seen a motherboard bundle at overclockers  http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Intel_Socket_478_Bundles.html

would any of these give me a good performance upgrade, and will the rest of my gear (hard drives, gpu, sound card etc) work with them?  basically any help would be good, im sick of not being able to play good games! cheers, nick :)

First off make sure you get the latest patch for it!

If you dont it will play crap.

ok, cheers for that. i want to change my cpu if poss cos it can be a bit frustrating sometimes, so if i go for an amd bundle will it all work with my hard drives/graphic card/ etc ?  is it just a case of swapping everything over and then firing it up or is it more complicated? thanks for your help!  :)

It will all work as long as you get the correct mobo (i.e. one with an AGP port if your g.card is AGP) and has ide or Sata connection points for your  HDD etc.

You will have to re-format though and put new drivers on for the new motherboard etc.  I re-format whenever I update any major part of my PC, except for adding extra HDD's.

Don't exspect to get any huge performence increase with the patch. MOHPA is one of worst games ever made. Its engine is the worst I've seen in years. It performs horribly even on my computer while games like doom3 and Half life 2 perform very well despite being 3 or 4 times more complex than the MOHPA engine. The gameplay is nothing new and the spawning NPC issue just downright sucks.

I suggest you get call of duty. Thats the authentic WW2 experience and its much better than MOHPA. And its based on a heavily modified quake 3 engine, meaning it will run decently on your computer.

ive found this bundle
http://www.savastore.com/productinfo/pr ... 593&pid=40

can you advise me on whether its ok? it seems reasonably priced to me, i know its not the best but it should give me an improvement on what i have now, shouldnt it...?   oh yeah, is it easy to re-format and add drivers for the new motherboard?  cheers!  :)

256 is not enough RAM and the mobo itself is a a socket 478, which is a bit outdated. While this is ok for the processor you use, it is not future proof and it leaves you no upgrade path.

ok, what about this one (the top one)
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/ ... GA775.html

i would probably add to the ram soonish, would this kit be ok? basically i'd like to be able to play games like doom 3, farcry etc with the settings not set to low!! lol
the other possible plan i thought of would be to get maybe a geforce 6600 gt and another 500 mb of ram.
but i have a feeling its my cpu holding me back, but i could be wrong.... any thoughts on the above would be cool ,

For gaming, an AMD system is recommended. Intel CPU's have been proven to be deficient in gaming by benchmarks.

I suggest you get an AMD system with 1 gig of memory and a 6600 gt. This will allow you to play with decent settins and get decent fps. I recommened soemthing around a 3500 or 3600 a64.

Yeah you should get an AMD processor for gaming... anything more than 3000+ recommended... :)

You should also get at least 1GB of RAM, and at least a GeForce 6600 GT; if you're willing to go that little bit further, an ATi Radeon X800 Pro (or even XT) should sort everything out!

For ULTIMATE gaming, you should aim to get an FX-55, but you've already said that you're a bit strapped for cash...

Try to avoid such CPUs as the Celerons and Durons...

Rob. :)

ok cheers for your help. i'll look at the amd's on overclockers. if i just changed my gpu to, say, a 6800 for now (and upgraded cpu etc in a few weeks) would i get any better performance or would my cpu etc just bottleneck it? cheers, nick  :)

right i just looked, how about this one?
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/ ... ndles.html
third one down.
could you possibly confirm that this would work with my current hard drive etc etc. i can give you the information you need if you point me in the right direction! thanks again  :)

You'll get better results from a better card rather than an expensive mobo & cpu swap.

What spec is your current celeron?

I have a friend with a Celeron 700mhz and a Geforce 3 ti500 card, he plays FS9 happily !   ;)

The Best A64 processor money can buy will still be pretty poor with FS9 with such a miss-matched card such as your 5700 !

As for the bundle's all are very good, all will perform well with FS9 and a decent card (such as an Nvidia 6600 GT) the 5700 will be a bottleneck with any new p4 or AMD 64 cpu.

Your money , your choice.
