Sound card...Is it worth it?

I was doing some reading on how to tweak FS2002 to its best performance.  It mentioned the having a sepirate PCI sound card should help the speed quite a bit.  Dont know if its true.  I did what it mentioned and disabled the sound during flight.  i noticed a medium sized improvement.  It ran a bit smoother and didnt jump as much + a 2-3 fps increase on the ground.  Would getting a sound card increase this more or is it even worth the trouble to get one.  I think i have seen them for about $20.

Also if anyone knows of better info then the one i found on avsim about tweaking please post.  Also says to disable some of whats running in the background.  I never know what all of that is other then a couple main programs i shut down anyway.  I know with this set up i should be getting much more then i am.  Though at some point looking to get a newer system.  Just need about $400 and the few parts from my older systems to have a custom built.  Dont know if that will ever happen though.   There is a nice HP we found for 500 that with my graphics card and extra ram chips it would run like a dream.

Get a sound card for a performence increase and you'll be disaapointed.

It is true that onboard audio (i.e. on the motherboard) uses the CPU to process sound; by offsetting this process to the motherboard, one can increase performence as the CPU has more time for other things now. The increase in performence is noticable.

However, to a get sound card specifically for this purpose is a not really worth it.

However getting a sound card for better sound is worth it. So if you ahve the money, by all means get one, the game will sound a lot better and you get a small performence increase.
