Hey guys,

I know I've been talking a lot about laptop processors lately.  But I wanted to see how many people prefer which processors, especially all you gamers out there.  Especially for the long run, not for buying then selling within a year or so, for at least 2 1/2 years.

The 64 is the best out of those, it is also the most future-proofed model with 64-bit technology.

You don't want a laptop with a P4...too hot.  Look for a Pentium-M if you can find a deal on one.

My employer recently replaced most of the "Managements" Laptops with Centrino's  8) Very nice, Pity A; I'm not a Manager,  B; Its done little for the Managements abilities to manage!  ::)  ;)  ;D

So you think that the AMD 64 3000+ processor is quicker than the Centrino 2.0GHz with 2MB L2 cache?  I'm not saying much cause I've seen neither of them in action!  Don't the AMD's get hot as well?

I'm implying no such thing, just saying there very nice and I wish I had one! - My pII 266 Laptop is showing its age!  ;D

Sorry if I'm repeating myself.  Won't anymore.

I read a test report on the 64 bit 3200+ (socket 754!)that said it was outperforming AMD's most expensive cousins with more level 2 cache in several tests.

I'm still not familiar with the Centrino's or any of the "newname" CPU's, but I don't think anything out there is much better than a 64bit XP at any price.

You seem pre-occupied with CPU's when you should be looking at chipsets and what they can offer you in the way of processor support and other features.

The way I see it, it's difficult to get what you want in a laptop, mainly because they are generally not very configurable at point of purchase.

WellI vote AMD, they are def the best fr gameing hands down. ow its going in a laptop, well dont knw much about the Mobos avalible for them but what socket do you plan on gettig eg 734, 939. If its a 739 try and get a 3500 if yu want to last but if ure getting 939 a 3000 should suffice, those are both pretty cheap. http://www.ocforums.com will give you more info then, I must say it this forum could ever give. There is mre info there and more help there then you could dream of

Graphics related, but 2dor 3d (like non-linear video editing or photoshop):
The Pentium4 w/HT, amd comes in second

Regular stuff (word processing, email etc.):
Centrino by far. Low power use and still quite powerful for its power use.

For the regular stuff, my 64MB (!) p266 Laptop (Gateway) is still doing an admirable job, alas, I hear on the news in the UK that laptops can affect fertility ! I'd never considered it a contraceptive!  ;D
