I'm blind when it comes to the inside of a PC.

Has anyone got a pic of a Mobo that shows an AGP input next to the PCI slots, that you can publish here?

Whether it's a promo or advertisement, whatever. I need to see the physical difference.

Thanks  ;D :D ;)

Well, if you ahd asked this about two days ago, I had mine apart for it's monthly cleaning... :-)

I'll have to look around and see what I can find...

http://www.thepc.info/PCI-AGP.html

Check this out, got pictures and a brief description of both... :-)

Just basically remember that there will usually be only one AGP slot on any given motherboard.. and they are almost always colored brown.. :-)

Thank you very much. Now I know what I'm looking at.

YES. I have an AGP Slot (and 3 PCI's).  ;D :D ;) ;)

It's a P4 mobo. Someone told me that there are virtually no P4 Mobos that don't have an AGP slot. At least he hasn't seen one.

Thanks

One thing I did notice with this thing that bewilders me though, is this:

It came with a 'factory optioned' nVidia GeForce 2 FX400, which I thought was supposed to be a PCI card, but it's plugged into the AGP slot. (That's what confused me and caused me to ask this question in the first place).

Does this mean the GeForce 2 that I have is an AGP card, if it's plugged into that input?
Or is there some kind of GeForce PCI card that fits into the AGP input?   ;) ;D

Thanks

If its in the AGP slot its an AGP card.  You cannot fit AGP cards into PCI slots  ;D

That's what I thought. I just recall seeing somewhere, at some time, that the FX400 was a PCI card.

Obviously it's not!

Anyway, it's a pretty crappy card, just the same. CFS3 doesn't even have it 'registered' as compatible. You have to edit the cfg file to 'true' to get the game to run. So I'll have to keep trying to get one of those cards you suggested the other day.
(It runs CFS2 like a demon though...........!! - I can at last, after nearly 3 years, see the wooden boards on the Yank Carriers. I knew they were wood but it was always a 'smooth' brown before.  ;D ;D)

And the difference a 17" monitor makes is indescribable.

Thanks for you help. I know exactly what I'm doing now! Well..................sorta  :D ;)

...like Gixer says...
...the edge connectors of the cards are completely different.

You cannot accidentally inter-change the cards into the wrong slots... ;)...!

ISA, PCI, AGP...

Cheers all... ;D...!

Paul.

Is there such a thing as a 'PCI version' of the GeForce 2 card?

Maybe I was reading about a PCI version of the same card................ ???

;D
