Drats - Not Quite Done (GFX)

Most of my programs run excellent (MOH:AA for example, runs good or phenomenal! ;D) But both civilian and combat sims run in a frustrating manner.  I do strongly believe my graphics card is my bottleneck.  What would be the best way to loosen it up? (Rig is specified as Skorpion (Check sig)) ;)

Sorry but that sig is too hard to read with the colors and"Wall Street motion"  :-/
Maybe you can boost your FPS on the sig to get rid of stutter ;D

well just go buy a new g/card then!  get a 6800GT or a 6800Ultra  ;D go on you know you want too.  Would be the icing on the cake!!

Just remeber most 6800GT over clock to Ultra speeds anyhow so if your happy over clocking get the GT.  My XFX 6800Ultra came with overclocking software so I guess the GT will too.

De-Wallstreeted. ;)

Skorpion Mk. V:
  • AMD Athlon 64 3000+
  • Asus K8V SE Deluxe
  • NVidia PNY Ti4200 64MB
  • Onboard Sound
  • 1 GB Corsair DDR
  • Hitachi 250 GB

The only thing is I'd like to stop blowing my paychecks on computer hardware, so if we could keep the price somewhere between 200-300 backaroos, it'd be nice. ;) I usually make 200-something bucks.

PS: Fret, the colors are there so that you can compare the great Skorpion to the pitiful Dell! ;)

Back to the topic at hand! ;D

PS: Not to worry Fret!  No offense taken! ;) :)

Forgot...

I was going to get 2 GB of RAM, but I read in my motherboard booklet that the third RAM slot runs at a slower FSB speed, so that shotts that in the....

Woulda been wasting your cash anyhow. 2Gig ram is overkill on a home system at the moment unless you are doing massive 3D CAD work or huge amounts of videoediting.

I got 1gig and cant get my system to use up more than 800meg of it at anyone time.  So with the money you have saved not upgrading to 2gig put that towards a new g/card and aim for the 6800GT.  Get 'Coolbits' reg tweek (Comes with some cards) clock to ultra speeds and off you go  ;)

So 6800s are the best thing to get?

Can you get the card without the game (Far Cry) bundled?  I read it was bundled on Cnet.  I don't like paying for things that I shant use. :P

Drats.  I hate eating up my money. :'(

Yes, 605, the 6800 will suit you just nice.

If your looking to save a bit, then go for the "O.E.M." version i.e. it'll come in a jiffy bag with no software other than a driver disk.

I did this when buying a Leadtek 6800 GT from http://www.overclockers.co.uk it saved me about

Hmm...  Does the specific type of 6800 I go for matter?  I hate how NVidia has all these different companies make their cards. :P

Does Overclockers have a US site?  I would imagine S&H would be quite a bit from the UK to the US. :P

In fact, what are some good sites for hardware price searches?

Yes, the specific type does matter.

I love how nVidia based graphics cards are made by so many different manufacturers!!!!
