Well, my computer is just about done, the only thing I need now is a DVD-ROM for a secondary slave to the DVD+/-RW, and a way to connect my PC (gaming) and my dads PC (internet). What is the best method for this? Removable storage? LAN?

Connect to what? If its to the internet you just need a router. If its just to connect to each other a cheap network kit with a hub etc.
I got a router with two PC's here that connect to the internet through it. Some of them can be a bit of a nightmare to setup for hosting games though.

What I think would be cheaper is to connect the two PCs somehow.

U just need a LAN kit then. Though some mobo's support a direct PC to PC function using a firewire cable i think.
As for hackers, well most routers come with a built in firewall these days. I got a firewall on my PC too but it never goes off these days, so it appears my router firewall is up to the job.

Well, it seems I've... forgotten ... all this terminology.

Would you care to refresh my memory? Router? Firewire?

Yikes, this is a lot of methods.
- Removable Storage (Zip Disks)
- LAN
- Firewire
- (Will USB work?)
- Crossover Cable
Yowsa, this is a lot of info. I dunno a lot about this. What is involved with each one? Which is fastest?

Why not just burn your downloads to a disc? then you can take them wherever you want, at only a few pennies! No messing with routers which in my mind only work good on wood

, wires, cables etc.

This is just silly guys, really.
You need:
LAN cards on each PC connected by cable, or a router connecting them. (you may find that both PC's have onboard LAN Cards).
Goto "Network Connection Wizard" and set up a Home Network with internet connection sharing.
After the connection is complete, setup the firewall to protect the Internet Host PC and the Client PC is protected automatically.
You can still get a virus on the Network from any traffic you are exposed to.
Realistically...... With a decent firewall and a bit of care, there is minimal risk of infection.... even without virus protection!

I conducted a full, complete, anti-virus system scan of all files. All the viruses I did have were in ZIP files.
My advice, when you download a file, after it is saved, conduct a scan of that file. Don't trust your AV software unless you're positive it's working. According to a network technician I hired, I'm running the second best AV software, but it doesn't appear to scan e-mails and downloads no matter how I configure it.
