What anti aliasing settings?

I have a Ge-force FX5200.

The setting options are:
            Application Controlled, Off, 2X, 2XQ, 4X, 8Xs.

Thanks,

Ben

P.S People told me to do something to this to get rid of jaggies and not to turn it on in the game, (FS9).

Ok Ideally you would want the highest you can get. Turning AA on really hits FPS though! Try 4x and go somewhere busy or fly through clouds. If fps drop to much try 2x.  Until my new g/card arrives I have changed my res from 1280x1024 with 2xAA to 1600x1200 with no AA.  With that res I dont get many jaggies anyhow and it seems to work better than with AA on.

I think you want to disable "Application controlled".

Thanks I'll have to try that.
Can you tell me how I can see what my FPS is. :-[

Great, cheers,

Ben

Whilst playing FS, press shift+Z twice. That will bring up some red writing with the FPS on.

The FX5200 can do a lot but it fails at AA. Try 2X or 2xQ. 2xQ has the AA quality of 4x at the speed of 2x but IQ tends to blurr at this setting. I ususally just leave it off because I don't feel it's all that necessary.

The reason you don't turn AA on in FS's settings is that it does it via software. This hogs resources away from the CPU and RAM. Turning it on via the video card makes the card do all the work and leaves the CPU to do other things.

Hey Gixer, when you get your 6800, let me know how it handles FS. I've been thinking about getting one.

Sure will if it EVER arrives  :( I rang the company again today! They still have no set date for the next delivery. Why did Nvidia release a dam card when they cant even manufacture the thing??  >:(

I been playin with my settings today, seems my trusty old GF4 ti4600 can hold 1600x1200 with 2x FSAA  ;D Didn't fly through any clouds though  ;)

Iroquois if your thinkin of gettin one of the 6800''s gotta be at least the GT model. And also after reading your other reply your gonna 'HAVE' to buy a new monitor! Wouldn't be justifiable havin that kinda g/card runnin through a 15" monitor  ;)

I don't think it's nVidia's fault. Did you order it from the web. I find that when I order stuff off the internet, especially from the States, it takes forever to get here. Especially if they deliver it by mail. My new CPU took almost 3 weeks to get here and it was only comming from upstate New York.

The wait must be agonising Gixer, I feel very sorry for you! ;D

But then when you get it your just going to boast and make us feel inadequate ;)

PS. My reply would be quite different if Pete put the devil smilies on :o

I heard that is was a problem with the DDR3 ram or summin, this was slowin production down.  Though in my eyes they should have never released the card until they had a stable manufacturing process. Still as said I'm sure it will arrive one day  :(

Just be thankful that they didn't ship it before before fixing the problem. Many software manufacturers do that *Cough* Lo-Mac.

I haven't even seen a 6800 for sale in a brick and morter store here. All the big electronics stores seem to only have ATI cards all of a sudden. Come to think of it, I haven't even seen the X800 yet.

I got an XFX on order too.  I am tempted to cancel my 6800ultra to get a GT and o-clock it, though I ahve noticed peoples bench scores with an Ultra are always higher than the clocked GT's.

As said the XFX Ultra comes pre-clocked to at least 425/1200  ;D   Suppose I have waited this long might as well continue to wait  :(
