Does anyone know if Win XP Pro supports RAID configured drives?

I thought it was to do with oyur Mobo? I hear ASUS's are very good.

I have a friend who has his MOBO set up and drives installed. XPPro does not recog the drive. MS says all OPERSYS except WIN2k do not support Raid. I was wanting to verify with someone how had a Raid setup on WinXP

I am currently running,ASUS Sk8N with Athlon FX-53 ,2 WD Raptor 36GB hard drives, In RAID O Configuration, 1 -GB 3200 OCZ DDR Memory,With Windows XP -Pro. Works great.

Do you mean SATA drives? Serial ATA
Vs PATA (IDE) drives.  Parallel ATA
Newer upscale MOBO's have SATA MOBO connections.
Cost is around $50 for PCI SATA card.
No advantage SATA for me.
They are also much more expensive.

Ahh, I just realised something after watching this post for a long time.

When you boot from the Win XP disk, the pro version anyway, (not sure about home edition)............

The first thing setup asks you is whether you need to install RAID drivers.........

So there you have it.  

There are two kinds of RAID, Hardware RAID and Software RAID. I know that Win2K Server supports software raid, XP I am not really sure. Hardware RAID shouldn't be a problem with just about any OS.

In regards to Congos post, that is hardware RAID. XP supports hardware raid as does 98, me, 2k, etc... Hardware RAID is supported through your mobo through the hardware setup and subsequent drivers. Software RAID is supported through the OS. Then you have other questions such as RAID 1, RAID 2, RAID 3, RAID 4, and RAID 5. Or you can do what I have done. Setup the RAID controller as another IDE and hook up two more hard-drives. One of the drives (60 gig) is mounted to my Microsoft Games folder on my "C" drive in effect making my Microsoft Games folder 60 gigs and on a drive all by itself which makes defraging easier and better as all the game folders are kept together.

Software based RAID is only available on the various editions of Server.
