I currently have 768MB of RAM installed in my computer, added 512MB a while back, but was wondering if I can replace the other 256MB stick with a 512MB stick, can my computer handle two 512MB stcks of RAM or is it overkill??
Or will it help my computer at all?
Here is my info, not sure if it is what you need to help me?

OS Name      Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
Version      5.1.2600  Build 2600
OS Manufacturer      Microsoft Corporation
System Manufacturer      Dell Computer Corporation
System Model      DIM4500
System Type      X86-based PC
Processor      x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 4 GenuineIntel ~1993 Mhz
BIOS Version/Date      Intel Corp. A04, 9/10/2002
SMBIOS Version      2.3
Windows Directory      C:\WINDOWS
System Directory      C:\WINDOWS\System32
Boot Device      \Device\HarddiskVolume2
Locale      United States
Hardware Abstraction Layer      Version = "5.1.2600.0 (xpclient.010817-1148)"
Time Zone      Eastern Daylight Time
Total Physical Memory      768.00 MB
Available Physical Memory      443.41 MB
Total Virtual Memory      2.58 GB
Available Virtual Memory      2.01 GB
Page File Space      1.83 GB
Page File      C:\pagefile.sys

Obviously I copied the info from my "system information", many of these things listed mean nothing to me because I don't have a clue too what they mean :) I still don't understand what "page file, virtual memory, physical memory etc" is so any info or advice is greatly appreciated!!

Looking in my official Dell Dimension Owners Manual the specs list 1GB maximum.
So this poses the question again can I add another 512MB stick which along with the 512 I already have?
my adding another stick would make that 1024MB Ram which would be 24mb more than a gig, correct?
So in turn this would mean that I'm limited to what I have now???

A gigabyte IS 1024mb ;)
So whacking in a 512 stick will be fine.

Ozzy :)

Just make sure that your new stick of RAM is the same type and speed as your existing stick. (They must match each other).... 8)...!
(Have a look at the label on your existing stick).
Then pop down to your local PC guru, (taking your existing stick with you to compare...handle carefully...anti-static bag...), and press loads of dosh into his hot, sweaty, eager hand.... :o...!
...I had to... ::)...!
(Ive got 768 Mb at the mo'...the maximium for Win '98 SE...)....enuf tho... ;)...!

Cheers Fret.... ;D...!

Paul.

Download this....Aida 32 from here...>>>

http://www.webattack.com/get/aida32.shtml

It will give you all the info on your system...fantastic program... 8)...!
(I have a short-cut in my system tray to give me access at any time..)... 8)... ;D...!

Go to www.4allmemory.com and enter your computer specs...it will tell you exactly how much memory the computer can take (max) along with the recommended memory sticks for your particular system.

Note: I have found the prices to be extremely reasonable.

Cheers,
Erik

I don't think it will help much, after all, it's a Dell.   :P

I went to their website to get the specs on the RAM, It just says DDR, so I can only guess they mean PC2100 DDR, it's also non ECC type.

http://support.ap.dell.com/docs/systems ... /specs.htm

Honestly, Fretnstuff, it's not gonna make much difference in that rig.

What will make a difference is a new cpu, like at least a 2.8ghz (they are cheap now). You need a CPU for a 533mhz FSB speed.
