Sis chipsets: are they crap?

I'm going to change my MX440 with a new VGA. I'm thinking of buying 128MB MSI FX5700 or Leadtek FX5700.
My mobo is Gigabyte 8SQ800 (has sis655 chipset in NB). In another forum, I've read that sis chipsets are not good and create lots of problems. I, myself, have never had a problem with my computer for over 1 year (even not formatted since I bought it). But having heard that sis is not good, I am getting curious if the new VGA will create problems with the sis655.
I would appriciate any comments, and would like to hear about someone who uses a descent VGA with sis chipset.
I'll also increase RAM to 512 and get on FS2004 soon.
Good days are near, no jagged edges anymore! ;D.

SiS chips don't cause problems. I'm using an ECS K7S5A with a SiS 735 chipset. It's a fine board and I've never had any problems with it. I'm using a FX5200 with mine.

I have not heard of any problems with SiS chipsets, you should search the Nvidia site and look at documentation for the 5700, it should say what chipsets it has known problems with. If there is no documentation assume there will be no problem and get the card, if it does not work RMA it and state that is incompatible with the motherboard. As Iroquois said it is unlikely there will be any problems. Go for it, it will improve your computer performance by quite a big amount, and also give you full DX9.0 support, which the 5700 is the starting card that Nvidia offer that does this, as it uses P.S 2.0. FS9 does not use P.S 2.0 but new programs you get may do.

I ran an Asus M/B with SiS chipset for quite some time time. No problems with anything other than USB2 controlers.

Did you try to update the drivers? I had a DMA mode problem with my CD-RW, updated the drivers and it is fine now.

I don't think SIS were "bad", they were just cheap, and didn't perform as well as their contemporaries.
SIS also did a lot of onboard graphics chipsets, and they (the graphics) never performed all that well for gaming use. Many of the boards fitted with SIS onboard graphics didn't have an AGP slot to upgrade the graphics card either. I've had three SIS mainboard chipsets, none of them were speed demons.
However, I've read about one of SIS's newest chipsets, it's supposed to be very fast, so, it's best to research the net for info.

New SiS chips are very good now. There are a some really good Athlon64 boards that are running them.
