hello my friends..couple of questions..my specs are; hp p4 2.6speed,2gig ram,ati9800xt (latest drivers)
q1. my current pwr supply is 250w, will upgrading help heat performance?
q2. can i install new memory cards ddr 3000..can any type memory go in any computer as long as they all match?
q3. my rig runs at 78 to 81 c...isnt that too hot, and if so will it cause performance degradation (fps or stuttering)
i'm getting to the point where i'm gonna hock my lungs and buy an alienware area 51...any good....i hear pro and con

I'm afraid I can't help. But is it a Dell?
I think with a reasonable system like that you may want to wait until all the new kit has come out this year - all sorts of interesting new bits are on the way - Unless you're desperate like I was!
Unless you see screen errors or have instability the Heat and PSU shouldn't be a problem. That is hot though

And I wouldn't expect your components to last long!
But if its a Dell there's not much you can do!

Speaking from past experiance, upgrade your psu, and install a second fan. ATI's generate a lot of heat, but are great,.
Check your mfr' specks as to the memory chips, and yes make sure they are of the same type, don't mix and match!
Reread your post and 2 gigs is fine, so I would start with the psu and fans first.
Have you had any problems yet?

The ATi 9800xt temp sensor does not exist and it actually calculates it from the motherboard and compensates by adding 20C to it. I don't know why they did not implement them into the 9800xt like they did with the 9600xt, but just subtract 20C from the reading and you have the actual reading for the 9800xt, it is 58C not 78C.

I read it in a thread on guru3d. I am looking for the thread, but the forum is so active that a thread you read one day will be no where to see the next, i will keep a look out and post it here when/if i find it.
