Silent Mouse

Postby Fly2e » Tue May 11, 2004 8:03 am

This would be a different request than the one about "Female Mice"!  ;D

Does anybody know of a mouse that does not make a "click" noise when depressing the buttons?  ???
If so, please let me know and..................
don't ask why.

He doesn't want to wife to hear how fast he can click through the adult sites!  ;D
But then Windows wouldn't work! You couldn't "click" on anything!
I might be mistaken but I belive one of the "off-brands" that WalMart carries has a silent mouse???

You know I never given it much thought about the clicking. But the question made me wonder why?
I'm assuming a mouse clicks and keyboards are noisy because that is like a reassurance that you pressed the button???
But I decided to find out what makes the mouse click, thinking that it might be just a plastic tab that could be broken off (much like the "saftey" on a disposable lighter).
Well inspecting my mouse I find that it is actually the type switch that is used, it probably contains a metal or plastic spring that returns the button to the upright posistion.
Something that manufacturers could easily change! So that is my reasoning behind the "click" a audible reassurance that you pressed the button hard enough???
I'm going out to Radio Shack this afternoon to search for a "quiet" switch that would do the same function, should be easy enough to do.
With all the effort in making "silent" PC's and Keyboards I wonder why they haven't thought about the mouse? Afterall if you are like me, the mouse is used more than the keyboard anyway!
I did find the A4 Tech Quiet Mouse, it has a silent mouse wheel but anything I read about it doesn't mention the buttons.
If you want a silent keyboard you could try the "foldable" or "roll-up" keyboards, they are absolutly silent, but bad for ergonomics!!
Also I use a Graphire 2 graphics tablet, and use the pen in replacement for the mouse, then all you have is a lite tapping noise as you use the pen to perform mouse functions.

HAHA!
The reason is actually what Fret said!

He doesn't want to wife to hear how fast he can click through the adult sites!
Well not really. ;)
My office at home sits right next to my family room where the TV is. I always fly the sim with my headphones just because I like to, no distractions. The problem is that the "clicking" is driving my wife crazy. For some reason she has "focused" in on it and now it drives her bananas! Don't ask me why..........it just does. Since I am either clicking on the sim or working on pictures, I am clicking sometimes like a madman and I don't hear it, but it is defiantly "overpowering" the volume on the TV!
I can see her point,............well not really. She says that at work all day she hears the "clicking", she is also "clicking"! Click, click, click!!
I searched for it with Google and came up with nothing!
I was thinking myself Fret of getting a mouse, they are cheap enough, and doing the same thing.
It's not the end of the word,.....just trying to be a bit "understanding" to my 9 month pregnant wife.

Women,..............................
Pass the beer nuts!  ;D

Does she hear the "clicking" when you aren't at the computer?
If so I would say she has grounds for a lawsuit against her place of employment!  ;D ;D Hazardous work enviroment!

You do know that I never really noticed that damn clicking until I read this topic! >:(

Now I hear the "talking head lady" and click, click, click!!!
Thanks buddy!  ;D

You know, I find the clicking very soothing...  8)
Whenever I read through the other posts, I CONSTANTLY click thoughout it. I click and highlight words at a time, to know where I am, but I do that in like .37 seconds a word. So I hear a lot of clicking...
