Female mice eh? Try the pet shop.  ;D

Anything optical is good. I just use a standard Logictech optical wheel mouse. Paid $20 for it at Staples Bussiness Depot. You don't even need a mouse pad with optical ones. Oh, they come with an adapter as well incase you don't have USB.

Ah. Thanks for explaining. I'm a tad slow at times. ;)

Try the Gimp by all means. They might have updated it but it was originally a Linux application with a Windows front end. I never figured it out. ???

if you play games like quake series or other FPS i would advise against an optical mouse. They are a little slower than a standard mouse in these cases.

I find with optical mice that in a FPS you are likely to find yourself looking either straight up or straight down from time to time.

I made the switch early on to the Logitech Optical Wheel Mouse and have never looked back.  It is one of the best investments I've ever made...and it was only about $20USD.

Just make sure you keep the male and female far apart - If there anything like gerbils your in for trouble! But then again we had 2 males until the first babies arrived :o
