I am trying out a Radeon 9800 pro to try and improve the performance and graphics on my computer.  I was wondering if someone could suggest how  I should adjust  the settings in the video card to get the  best out of it. such as the antialasing, mip apping, perfomance, resolutions etc.

My computer is a AMD Athon (tm)
XP 2500+
1.84 Ghz
1.0 GB of Ram

Use the control panel to turn on anti-aliasing or anisotropic filtering; it looks better and runs faster if it is control panel forced as opposed to running it from the game options, so leave it off in game but on in the control panel.

Turn V-sync off.

4XAA and 4XAF is a good choice of settings.

Tweak other settings to comprimise between performance and IQ.

I've set my 9800XT to 6xAA, 16xAF and all the other Truform/Vsinc/mipmap/texture sliders to the full - am I overdoing things a bit?

Little overdoing it. You would be surprised many times that the lower settings can still give you a great look with less of a frame rate hit.

I have a 9800 and love it, but do use the Omega drivers. They seem to be a tad better than the ATI drivers. Can get them here:   http://www.omegacorner.com/

With these drivers and control panel you get the SMART GART feature with more options.

Different 9800 models vary quite a lot in performance, you guys should specify. (ie. Birdman has a 9800XT)
