Is it possible to control everything with keyboard

Hi,
I purchased a MS joystick, now I would like to eliminate the mouse and use only the joystick and the keyboard.

I re-defined all the controls I need (radios, A/P switches, OBS, hd selector, etc.). But I have diffuculty at altitude hold switch. I mapped it to letter "I", but when I press, it just toggles fight director on, and activates wing leveler.

Moreover, I could not find the IAS adjust selector.

I read somewhere in this forum that someone done such a thing for CFS, i wonder  if it is possible with FS2002.

Thanks.

CTRL+SHIFT+R is the Airspeed select
CTRL+R            is the Airspeed hold

hope that helps?

If you go onto AVSIM and look in the FS2002 misc files theres several files in there that list all the standard keyboard commands.

cheers
eno

I use the Microsoft Force-feedback Pro joystick for the yoke/stick, and throttle only, the rest I use the keyboard for gear, flaps, trim, brakes, etc.
It's easy to get used to the basic keys for these functions. I know them all off by heart now... ;D...!
The mouse, I just use for the radios, such as operating the switches and dialling in the numbers. I find it makes more sense, using my right hand to control the radios just as pilots would... 8)...!

Cheers all... ;D...!

Paul.

P.S. ...mind you, I only fly GA planes fitted with GA panels... ;)....!
...None of your complicated '747 stuff... ::)...!
LOL...!

P.P.S.  the drop-down knee-board in the Menu, lists all the default keys, and enables you to change them to suit yourself... ;)...!

Well, actually I know all the keyboard shortcuts. It is just listed when you select

Optinons>Controls>Assignments...

My problem is that, I try to re-define these commands so that they are easier to use (i.e instead of pressing "Ctrl+Shift+R" for airspeed select, I would like to press just "R" for this), but I could not find the entry for the IAS adjust selector keyboard shortcut (I mean the list under Optinons>Controls>Assignments..., it is listed in the kneeboard and works however (but I cannot re-define them by using the kneeboard)).

As Fozzer mentioned I checked the kneeboard and noticed a strange thing. It nicely lists all the shortcuts, and it is not a static text, when I redifine a key it updates this information, everything normal up to this point, then I re-define the altidute hold key to "I" but this is still listed as "Ctrl+Z" in the kneeboard and altitude hold shortcut is allways "Ctrl+Z", I cannot change it. ???

Sometimes it is necessary to adjust a radio, OBS etc. while in a turn or during approach, and I don't want to leave my hand off the joystick, that's why I want to eliminate the mouse. It is not rare that I had to land on the taxi ways  ;D

I always land on taxiways.
It saves getting tangled up with all those annoying aircraft playing silly buggars on the runways.... ...!

LOL. Very vise way of thinking :)

Genetic, this post is probably in the wrong forum, as it's kind of a FS9 settings thing

Well, I guess FS9 is FS2004. I use FS2002 and I posted this to FS2002 forum actually. But it has been moved here. I think the moderator thought this is a hardware question as I entered the matter by saying "I purchased a MS joystick, ..." They seem to be very busy :)

have you tried mapping it to another key other than "I"

Yes I tried a couple of other keys. No good  :'( .

or set and SAVED it through Options>Controls>Assignments?

There is no Save option in Options>Controls>Assignments. I just set it and hit OK. Maybe there is in FS2004, and you are talking about that?

Is your FS9.cfg file properties accidently set to "read only" ?

I don't know where to look it in FS2002.cfg. But the problem is only with the altitude hold, others are working well. So, this shouldn't be the problem.

Thanks for your replies.
