AMD Athlon vs Pentium IV

I am thinking about buying another computer and was just wondering which processor seems to work best with FS 2004, the AMD or the Pentium IV? I am currently using the latter, and just wondered if there was much of a difference between the two.

Hi there BiggBaddWolf.

For me, it's a matter of err... 'personal preference'.  ;D
Some people prefer and Athlons over Pentiums and some people prefer Pentiums over Athlons. As you can see from my sig, I prefer Pentiums, because they seem to handle games better. It really is up to you: if you want performance, then go for the AMD Athlon 64 FX-53 or Athlon 3400+XP. If you want quality, however, then, (like me), go for the Intel Pentium 4EE 3.4 GHz HT. You will need a good GPU to do processors like these justice, however!

Hope this helps,
Asda ;)

Quality ?  Hmmmm.  If there were any question as to AMD quality... They'd have been run out of business a long time ago. Simple fact:  Given a set dollar to spend.. you'll end up with more CPU buying AMD, than Intel..

Test of 65 CPU's:

What you expect is not always what you get.  REM: MB is the first consideration.

I would recommend AMD because you get more for your money.

My mom has Intel in her system, my computers have all had AMD...

My computer runs without problems, while hers is always giving her problems...

yeah AMD seems to be more of a gamers cpu and tends to be cheaper than the equivalent pentium. thing to watch out for on amd cpu's is the heat. my old thunderbird 1.4 chip ran very hot even with a decent fan on it.. my new system runs a lot cooler but havent had a single problem with it yet
