Hey.

I'm getting a new PC next week(yey!), anyway I want to setup ICS on it so I can use 2 PCs online. I have a pretty good Idea how everything works.

I just wanted to see if anyone knows what stuff I will need. I will also be sharing the connection with Xbox Live, so I will need a hub.

I think I will need a RJ45 connector cable from the PC NIC to the Hub, and then the extra two - one going from the Hub to the Xbox and one to the other PC....is this correct?

Also one PC will be XP and one ME, should this cause a problem?

Thanks for all the help, sorry if this is not the right place to ask this sort of question....it just seems some of you people seem to know a fair bit about computers.

It shouldn't be a problem

If you have a LAN session between a Win 98SE machine and a Win XP Pro machine, both machines will be able to access the net simultaneously.

The XP machine needs to be the one that hosts ICS.

Not sure about the Xbox or you cabling thru a hub.

Also, firewalls are tricky if installed, try to configure it so the XP machine has the firewall and the others dont need one. If you use a firewall, it might be best to drop it until you get the network sorted, otherwise its hard to tell where a problem may be occuring, if any.

There are other ways to network, multiple networking cards in the host PC, or a router.

The help files in Win XP show some diagrams of layouts.

My #1 Machine (p4 2.6c) networks happily with 98SE on my #2 , the trick I've found is to have the XP machine set to assign its own I.P. automatically.  I've assigned a specific I.P. for the other '98 machine.

If my friends bring more pc's (upto 3 due to the limitations of my hub) round for a friday night LAN / Bong party (  ;D ) I simply assign the extra machines specific I.P.'s I'm able to Host a Battlefield 1942 or Nascar 2003 server and allow the other machines to play on-line also (assuming each machine has its own CD & CD-key etc....)

Works for me, but its a bitch to set up!
