Somebody please give me some help with this one.  I have a HP 8550MHZ PIII running ME.  I bought a USB Sidewinder Precision 2 a few months ago and it still won't work.  When you go to the Game Controlers menu the only option for joystick ports is the joystick port, no USB.  Therefore, the computer cannot recognize that the stick is connected and the software won't install.  Everything I own is USB and it all works, except for this. Plese give me a solution or even a possible solution. >:(

I'm running 98SE, I installed the same Joystick a few months ago and it worked the first time. You need to install the software first before plugging in the joystick.

If you have 2 or more CD-ROM's, try putting the install disk into another drive... maybe that will fix it. Also check if the install disk doesn't have any deep scratches on it.

Can you see the Disk in the CD-ROM from My Computer?

Have you tried another USB port?

You should click on the ADD button in gaming controllers/options. Not sure what ME acts like, but in my experience, all the MS joysticks will configure without adding any additional software.

Select the joystick in the list that most closely matches your's, or if there is an entry: "MS Sidewinder (auto detect)" ,

IT WORKS! IT WORKS! Question:
Should I:
1: Jump up and down with joy?
2: Bang my head against the wall for my stupidity?
3: Scream and yell because I am ticked off for having this stick for 2 1/2 years and not using it because I didn't try Stratobat's first solution?
Answer: all three. :D :'(
