Hi Guys:
Why does my internet connection disconnect after about 1-2hrs even if I am using it all the time. Its really annoying as I can never download large downloads. Any help would be great.

either update your modem drivers or have a talk with the guys from your internet company.

I have the same problem, sometimes. Talked to my ISP and of course their response is "It's not us." Talked to my phone company, same response. Updated modem drivers and still the same problem.

Now everyone knows that ISPs will bounce you out if they get overwhelmed at busy times. So I tend to lean there.

There is another culprit and it is line clutter. Sometimes you get what appears to be an idle connection and the modem or ISP drops you. There is one thing that can help in this regard but is not a fix. Find your "Extra Initialization Commands" in your modem configuration. In here, type in S10=50 . This "String" will help keep your modem connected when line traffic is so bad you appear to be idle.

Like I say, it is not a fix but does help, how much is dependent on too many variables.

Afford it? I could afford it IF they would just get it out here where I live.  >:(

In the meantime, my dial up and I do ok.

I would recommend to all, dial up or broadband to go to http://www.speedguide.net and and get the FREE and VERY useful program called TCPOptimizer. This is one program that really helped.

Also visit your modem manufacturer, if you are using dial up, and check to see if they list any EXTRA STRINGS. Many times, these "Extra Initialization Strings" will do wonders for your connection and performance of your modem.
