Advantages of having Sound card

What are the advantages of having a sound card?

I am using an On-board chip. I am having no problems whatsoever, and the sound is good. I have it connected to my Audio System so I really don't have to think much about the quality of the sound.

I'm thinking of getting a sound card that has a Joystick port. My PC doesn't have a Joystick port, but I have a joystick that doesn't support USB (Old MS Forcefeedback)

Any suggestions to what I can do?
Thanks

Check that the onboard chip isnt AC'97 codec or it probably won't work with the gameport joystick- EVEN IF YOU DISABLE THE ONBOARD SOUND and use a soundcard!!!

This is a known issue and it relates to AC'97 not supporting the FFB on the midiport.

So be warned.

Hmmm... That's worrying... I don't even know how to check what chip it is...

Sounds like buying a new Joystick would be a lot easier. What would you recommened?

Exactly the point Delta, Your's is USB, this post is about the "Gameport" version of the "MircoSoft FFB Sidewinder".

Well, Laggyman, Type your mainboard model number into google search and look it up, or get out your paperwork, it might be in there.

By the way, if anyone knows a real answer to the AC'97 MS/FFB gameport issue please!!!!! Let me know.
