What do I need to upgrade?

Postby Richard_Taylor » Mon Jan 19, 2004 9:39 am

I have a 2.8GHz P4 hyperthreading with 512Mb and FX5200.

With all sliders set to max. I am lucky to get 12 -15 frames/sec.

There is little if any improvement with any of the sliders except the 'Autogen'.  If I move the Autogen slider to 'Normal' I generally achieve 25 frames/sec.

Do I need more memory, better graphics card or what?  I would have thought 'Autogen' processes to affect and to be affected by more processor speed and memory than by the graphics card but a friend says I am wrong.

All advice appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Richard

new graphics card is what you need.

You will probably want to get an ATI 9700 or above
Still have a nice PC but I just switched to a hella nice mac

You will get about a 5 FPS upgrade if you get a bit more ram (another stick of 512)

I just upgraded about 3 days ago, and now I am getting awsome performance. You can see that I have my computer overclocked, but, I don't think you will wanna do that ::)

PS- I get about 15-20 fps with my specs below
I am somwhere I don't know where I am!!!

Personal opinion....... Look at the graphic bar chart in another thread here in the hardware forum.  The clear top performer for fs2004 is the ATI 9800 or the 9800XT (256 meg).

If framerates are your concern..... then the 9800 is the card of choice ....even despite my HORRIBLE experience with ATI's support system.

best,

...............john

Yeah the ATI 9800 seems to be the difference on many machines...I love mine.  But I do recomend more RAM first.  See how that helps.  A bit cheaper than replacing the video card...

You need a decent video card. the 5200 just isn't up to FS9.
