Prob No.2. Processor detection in boot-up..

Postby Fozzer » Wed Jan 21, 2004 4:36 pm

Hi All... ;D...!
Fozzers problem No.2... ::)...!

1: I have a new Gigabyte GA-7 VT 600L, 400 FSB, Socket A Motherboard.
2: A new Socket A, Athlon XP 2600 MMX, (2.1 gig), processor fitted with an "Arctic Cooler" Copper Silent TG heat sink and silent fan.
The latest Gigabyte motherboard drivers are installed, and the Bios is up-to-date.
The motherboard should auto-detect the processor fitted, during boot-up.

Now comes the problem... :'(...!

Nine times out of ten when I boot up, it indicates that the processor is an Athlon XP 2000 MMX, (1.7 gig), type rather than the correct one, Athlon XP 2600 MMX, (2.1 gig).
If I am lucky, the 10th. time of booting up it will indicate a 2600 processor...

The difference in speed is noticible when running FS 2004...!

Has anyone got any ideas as to why this is happening...?

Cheers all... ;D!

Paul.

P.S.  I bet the silence will be deafening... ::)...!
...surprise me... ;)...!
LOL...!

have you checked the bios settings or the settings in the hardware profiles? making sure to delete or turn off the other one, if thats even possible

Hi Craig... ;D...!
I think I see what you are getting at, but I actually only have one processor.
It's just that when I boot up, the system reports the wrong size processor...(a 2000 instead of 2600)...1.7 Gig instead of 2.1 Gig :'(...!
..and therefore the system runs at the slower speed... ::)...!
The processor details appear on the boot-up screen and also in "dxdiag".
Something, somewhere, is not sensing the correct size processor... :'(...!

Cheers mate... ;D...!

I think your Bios settings are wrong.

The XP2600+ CPU runs on a 166mhz Front Side Bus speed and uses a CPU multiplier of 12.5 to give the 2.1ghz speed.

My first thought is that your FSB speed is currently incorrectly set to 133mhz.

So..... It's a matter of making sure your FSB speed is set to 166mhz and your CPU multiplier is set to 12.5.
