I seem to be having some hardware trouble. Although I have checked System Information and My computer > properties they both show the full 128mb of SDRAM. On boot up I get a fairly long BEEP from my tower, and in FS2002 I get intermittent glitches. Is one of my Rams coming loose? How can I stop it beeping at me? I have run a Scan Disk on C:\ and there are no errors. HELP!!!!!

Hi Dan,

First of all you should look in your PC BIOS-Handbook. There might be several of "Beep-Messages" at bootup if something is wrong with your hardware. So, one long Beep can be the graphics-card or the processor. That

If you suspect something loose like RAM, you need to remove the RAM and use something to get the dust out like canned air etc.  Then put the RAM back in and make sure it is firmly in place and then you will no if that was the prob.  

Also take the power cable out of the back when you open the case up.

Actually, if the Power cable has an earth Pin, it provides excellent protection against your body's static killing those precious chips, as long as you earth yourself to the case.

If the Wall Plug has a switch on it, the case is earthed with no risk of shock whatsoever, as long as the switch is off.

The high voltage lies within the Power Supply Unit, so no risk of shock unless the PSU is Faulty..... The power cables in the case are all low voltage.

I have dicky RAM slot on my board, it can do that after a car trip. Your manual might have the POST beep codes, maybe the Manufacturers Website.

The documents that came with my machine are frankly Cr*p. All it says is what graphics card I have etc. So I have no BIOS manual at all… Could my BIOS / CMOS battery be low? My PC seems to work fine  ???. Oh, where can I get an anti-static wristband in Wales  / The Uk?

Hi again... Could you visit http://www.sysopt.com/biosbmc.html for me. I am not sure what it means by separate beeps. Mine does not really beep several times but more of a warble for about 1.5 seconds. Next time I boot up I will count. If it is what they call one long one then is that good? Any experience / ideas readily excepted.

lol i had this problem with my car a few months back we couldnt work out if it was a long beep or just 1 beep, without hearing first off what they consider a short beep and long beep its difficult,
Anyway, if its longer than 1 second long its usually considered a long beep

1 long POST passed.  No Errors

So thats good is it?

nope, warbling is definitely not on, if it persists, I'd see the vet.  ;D

but seriously......  ;)  Each brand of BIOS has it's own post codes, and you need your bios number to be able to match the codes.

Best just to carefully pull the components out and replace them carefully once or twice to see if that does the trick. You don't need a wrist strap, unless the air is extremely dry and static prone, as I said before ... leave the plug in the wall, but switch the wall switch OFF. there will be no power but the case is earthed. as long as you lean on the case, all is well. Avoid directly touching the chips if possible.

As everything is working ok I think I will leave it for now. I think a new better description would be sort of beebeebeebeebeep, although they are too fast to count.

well i get no beeps lol strange i did on my old comp

one looooong beep... video or memory problem.
