HELP / Computer / Question ???

OK , so heres the Sit-u-tation !

I want to back up ALL my Aircraft files / folders , gauges , Effects, Aircraft, Textures - etc.

So I purchased this External Hard Drive , called "MY PASSPORT" 1 full Terrabyte.

little hand held device , not much bigger than the palm of your hand.

Basically plug & play set up.

So I installed it, downloaded any updates, etc, etc,........

Set it up.... to copy / Transfer all the files only from my FSX Gold Acceleration,,, as stated above !

NOT the entire contents of my C-Drive.

Now I thought , was under the Impression,,, that these new Hi-Tech devices would be somewhat fast,,,,,,

My idea & Definition of fast must be wayyyyy Different than a lotta these Computer Programmers have in mind or are capable of !!!!

I'm thinking more less like 30 minutes to 45 minutes type fast to copy ALL the files of my FSX Gold / Acceleration, mainly all the add on' Aircraft both FREEWARE & PAYWARE and Sceneries too,,,,,

after all, this is 2013 - NOT 1999 - !!!!

So I got it all set up ready and started the process,, at about 9pm ,, on wednesday nite

its NOW Thursday nite at 11:45pm a day later, and its still not done !!!!

What gives ?

I seriously can copy and i've already done it,,,,,, I can copy a lot of my Aircrafts files to a CD/DVD Disc faster than this thing - this MY PASSPORT

I was expecting some Super Grand Hi-Tech Wizardly Technology here, Faster than slow moving molasses at best, and what I get , Slow moving molasses , nothing FAST about it,,,,

matter fact i've seen ICE CREAM melt faster than this thing can copy / Transfer files

I've actually got over Head Colds / Flu, Faster than this thing can Copy / Transfer folders & Files !!!

So, I assume what i'm waiting for,,, is what I see over on the far right where it says 19.50 GB copied,

I'm waiting for it to REACH 931.50 GB ,,,, is that Right ?

well Geeee,,, 19 to get to 931,,, thats a ways to go,,,,, I'd thought it would of zipped thru those files & folders like a knife thru hott butter !!!

and PRESTO' i'd have everything copied / transferred and for safe keeping,,,

using this New External Hi- Tech Device, called MY PASSPORT ( WRONG) !!

So does any body out here have any ideas or used this particular device any experience with it

i'm about ready to take it back and get my money back,,, or somethin,,,,

I'm NOT highly Impressed at all !!!!

According to my "Aircrafter Utility" last checked , I have just over 4,655 Aircraft in my Simulator

and I have about 25 Sceneries installed

and some other stuff

NO REX
NO Special weather add ons none of that crap,,,,

All I was wantin to copy was the Aircraft & Sceneries mainly,,,,

Open for suggestions & ideas !!

Never mind now ,,,

I Un-installed it, and did some research on this device , its full of problems and has a high failure rate anyway, so i'll be taking it back, its not even a week old,,, total junk, poorly made, the programming poorly written for it,,, another one of those electronic trinkets, that were thrown out in the public to hopefully feast off your pocket book, while they waltz to the bank smiling, knowing it was junk, is what i'm finding out,,,

the companys own forums are loaded with complaints from users, on this particular product as well as several other forums that cater to these types of devices.

i'm done with it, say no more - end of the line for this piece of junk !!

You probably know all this, Jetranger, but for those who don't....

A couple of questions for the next time.

Was that one USB 2.0 or 3.0?

What version of USB was it plugged into?
USB 1 is usually colored white. (speeds of up to 12mbps)
USB 2 is usually colored black (speeds of up to 480mbps)
USB 3 is usually blue. (speeds of up to 5gbps)
(USB 1.1 & 2.0 will sometimes be the same color - a gray/black)
(The maximum speed is rarely achieved and almost never maintained)

If it's a yellow USB port it's usually "always on" for charging phones, tablets, etc. (I guess that you could even use it as a night light with a USB/LED light )
If it's a red USB port, it's anyone's guess. There's no clear standard except, perhaps, within a particular brand.


A USB 3 device will probably work on a USB 2.0 connector in your computer. But it can't be any faster than the 2.0 standard.
A USB 3 device may work on a USB 1.1 connector in your computer. But you had better be a very young child if you want to backup anything, because it will take a vvvveeeeerrrryyyy long time to do it.


And last, but not least - sometimes you have a USB port that's marginal/failing/bad. Try another USB port.

Set drive in bios to AHCI and not IDE mode.

Ya, I solved the Problem,,, I took it back and got my money back, its was Junk !

copied all my Aircraft and paints and gauges and effects etc to CD,,, and faster than that did and I have em' all organized too, Jets, props, heli's etc.

Good enough,,, job done - problem solved !

I usually make a backup every now and again, but I always burn a cd with anything that I buy. If it's freeware that I really like I'll burn that too.

I just like having something physical in a safe place, that I know I can depend on.
