my 2 cents. Mid-range cards are for the experts who want the higher speed at a lower cost. I'm about to do this in fact.

My X1300 with 512mb is actually an X1600 (i've had it looked at) with half the pipelines missing. so basically i was only using 256. at first i thought it was a big rip-off, but now i see it as a great way to play the system at its own game.
