At least I know now, and I dont need a new motherboard thank God (funds are limited at the mo).
Later today I'll be reseating my CPU heatsink with some new thermal paste and if that works I'll leave it alone for the moment.
As has been said so much recently, I'm gonna wait before I spend on serious upgrading!
Thanks for all of your help lads, Ive learnt a lot from this episode, I'll keep you updated!

Mine was 78*C when I cooked it.

Now my ASUS runs a cool 40*C even with my clock where it is.

All cleaned up, new thermal paste applied.
WHAT A DIFFERENCE!  :D
CPU 40c-45c
Mainboard about the same.

Its amazing what a little cleaning, and thermal paste can do. Still too hot for my liking, but off stock cooling, thats about where it should be.
