Just thought I would present you guys with these few tid bits.

AMD 4600+ AM2 costs $575
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLi ... tegory=343

Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 costs $530
http://anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdo ... i=2771&p=6

AM2 Socket Mobo costs $230 for top of the line
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLi ... &maxPrice=

Intel 975X motherboard costs $240 for the same ASUS board
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLi ... &maxPrice=

So we have the top of the line normal Conroe pitted against the mid range AM2 processer, and its better on all fronts. Say what you like, but I really think that this one is going to intel. Also AMD has had their launch for this year. Their not putting anything else out processer wise according to their press. They are now going to focous on Torenzo and 4x4 to compete with intel's VIIV

Cheers
Cameron

Its simple... Lets say all that is true and AMD is going to concentrate onthe next gen of product.... all AMD has to do is drop the price of their top end FX processer to the point where Intel is outrageously charging for the speed.... AMD will at that point be king again because the cost to performance ratio will be in line with lower budgets and therefore they will sell more chips.

Its the same thing as selecting an AMD processor for a system. The San Deigo 3700+ or 4000+ is the best cost to performance solution on the market. If the FX64 is priced right, who the hell would want to pay double for the benchmark bragging rights. On top of that, you know as well as I do that the motherboard has allot to do with how well the benchmark looks... who knows what is coming by Q4 in boards? How do we know those benchmarks will hold up as good as they look today with motherboard releases of Q4 and Q1 of next year? We dont..

AMD has always managed to trump Intel... I am sure they have something they are holding back until the right time to announce it. That is what pisses Intel off about AMD... they are SLICK and always have been when it comes to the game.

I wish someone would come along be that slick against M$ ..

Anyway.. Thanks Nick.. I kinda already knew what you explained, but your explanation helps plant it better, in my feeble mind. I know there are differences in the "logical flow-chart" between AMD and Intel.. It's why a 2.4ghz AMD processor can keep pace with a 3.4ghz Intel. I just didn't realize there could be a 40% boost in   R E A L  performance between two, cutting-edge CPUs. Heck.. there wasn't  40% increase in performance for my old Athlon XP2500 over a 2.0ghz Celeron a few years back. And I'm sure there aint a 40% advantage for this AMD64-3700SD over that XP2500 and there was a good three years between the two.

Here is a list of my primary computer CPU over the last 6 years:

900mghz Celeron

2.0ghz Celeron

XP2000

XP2500

AMD64 3000

AMD64 3700

I'd say I was lucky to get  10% of   R E A L  performance increase in any one of those steps.

I've found that CPU specs are kinda like Stereo watts.

Doubling your wattage won't come anywhere close to doubling your decibels..

The 500$ Conroe bate a $1000 overclocked fx60 in many, many benchmarks.

Obvously, when the Conroe goes public there will be a price drop with the AMD.

However, Do you really think AMD are going to half the prices of there fx60 to compete? Even then, the Conroe will be a slightly better deal; and then there is the
1000$ Extreme edition Conroe with no competition.

cya

Also, how could AMD piss off Intel? Count the 2005 earnings for both companies and compare.

For the same reason Microsoft wants complete and total domination of the market. Its that simple.

And as for the rest of it, I don't believe AMD will allow Intel to grab (and hold) any part of their primary market.

Speaking of Dell, it looks like they dropped their deal with AMD, due to how well the Conroe is doing. Only time will tell.

There is a WAR brewing.... I've known about it for several months.

We will see what happens. Q4-06 and Q1-07 will be the test.

We gamers win BIG time.. When this war fades and the dust settles.. There are going to be some mighty powerful gaming CPUs floating around at a great price !

Explain to me why? The Pentium D prices are going to fall, thus making a prestler affordable. Also all P4's are getting relabled Celeron, and the prices are dropping there. You may as well just wate, and get a Core Duo.

And the a*** rape of AMD by Intel continues http://hothardware.com/viewarticle.aspx ... =832&cid=1

With mid level Conroe's outbenching the FX60 theres really nothing AMD can do. I mean sure it could drop its prices, but I seriously doubt that AMD will drop its FX series $500 to compete with the Conroes. If it does then Intel will drop their EE chips price down to compete, and people will still buy Intel over AMD.

History tends to repeat itself.... what you are seeing is Episode IV: The Empire Strikes Back

Episode V: Return Of The Jedi hasn't been released yet

We all want better hardware.. Every newer faster chip is good news for all of us..

But geez,  ct ..  This is like something personal to you. You're not only fond of Intel.. it's like you hate AMD and wish them to fail..  And you know.. if they ever did fail; if Intel ran them out of busines; we'd be just as much at the mercy of Intel, as we are M$..

I don't get it ?

The reason I stick up for intel is because so many gamers just write them off as media processers. Yay AMD have feature X and Y, thus achieveing 5FPS more. However they are slower for all other apps outside of gaming.

I don't know, it could also be the fact that my best friend's father is an engineer for intel, so the better the company does the better his bonous, the better the bonous the better my friends summer. So thats why I'm so excited over how well they did with conroe.
