i don't know why, i was under the impression that all this procedure would take only a day... i completely forgot about the fact that tech guys usually have more then ONE client  :P

so... my simming is on hold until Saturday

or go with a current OS which is still in the prime?

Vista has a prime? :-?

;D

The boot time on the i7 is so fast that I don't even notice it. From boot to desktop is only a few seconds. Vista seemed to lag and try to run other processes before the desktop would appear.

my boot time is slow. just to give you an idea since I don't know the exact time, the bar goes through more than 15 times... lol. but when it's up and ready... it goes!

15 bars is a long boot  :o (i too count boot time by the number of bars)

my current rig, newly formatted, boots in 6 bars... although, it was formatted last week, and it didn't even have all the necessary programs in yet

well, it doesn't really matter if it's getting it's job done the way it should right? plus, i usually just hibernate the computer, and only reboot when necessary

Cheers

Hibernation takes up disk space and essentially does not allow the memory to completely clear because it reloads a snapshot of the systems last state into PM on boot. Its known for having issues with some video drivers too. I see absolutely no reason to use the function for a system one wishes clean performance on. Office systems, yes.. gaming and perf towers.. no

Hi Nick, i was kind of expecting to hear something about hibernation  ;)
i usually do that on my laptop... which is mostly a Skype + SimV platform with occasional light development on Flash... so performance is not what i'm after with it, since i doubt it could run even FS2002  ::)

the big computer sleeps soundly every night... and trust me i will do every tweak to squeeze even the last drop of perf juice out of it  ;)

Cheers
